Out of a 2015 Glider Coronado and into a 2020 version of the same. Nearly identical trucks but the 2015 had an air ride front axle suspension and the 2020 has a leaf spring mounted front axle. The 2020 doesn’t turn as tight and requires needs a much larger area to turn around. I’m looking info on the steering stops adjustments. Can the steering stops SAFELY just be removed without damaging anything? OR Maybe just turn the steering stops all the way in? Any info will be appreciated!

    Remove…….No.

Adjust, yes. In most cases you need to know what steering gear you have to properly set it up after adjusting the stops.
Depending gear type service information is available directly from the manufacturer website.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

“steering gear” meaning there can be more than one gear box ratio or?

Sounds like generally there may be only one “correct” mfg setting with no variation?

The manual stop adjustment is the easy part. The poppets will likely need reset to the new stops. In other words you may not have power assist all the way to the stops after adjusting and you won’t feel the difference. I always adjust both sides to the same number of steering wheel turns both ways. Then set the poppets. Yes meaning different manufacturers of the steering gear, not all are the same.

Very informative! You’ve obviously done this a few times. I also watched several TRW vids explaining poppet settings etc. Feels complicated and if you don’t get it right you may end up with excessive heat in the system. Think I’ll hold off and see if I feel the same after a few thousand miles in this rig. Maybe it will loosen up a bit. Thanks again!

When specing a truck, best to spec the "wide track" steer axle. It turns sharper. Probably the difference of the two trucks. Also, DOT can get picky and write you up after adjusting stops if tire has ability to rub pitman arm.
