Are "manual transmissions only" types of drivers supertruckers?

I've driven both.... Alot. Both have thier pros and cons...

I do like having more control that a manual gives in CERTAIN situations. But an auto can give more control in OTHER situations.

If you truly take the time to become proficient with both you will be a better, more versatile driver.

As long as the man can keep us hating on each other and keep us divided , nothing will change.

Having driven both, if I had the last truck that I drove I would take that, which was an auto. It was so smooth, no hesitation or rough take offs. As opposed to some of the other trucks in our fleet that had Smartshift or whatever they called them, always complaints. But, if I was to go back to hauling liquid sugars, corn syrup, etc...I would probably prefer a manual because I think you can control the load better.

Always stirring sheet up…… quit hating, we know you CANT drive a manual yet alone a real truck. So most of your threads consist about auto’s and Volvos. :mad:o_O

    Estrogen supplements needed maybe?
    To fix the testosterone problem.
If there is a problem to start.

    Auto’s are for girls.

Seriously, every now and then I read a post like yours and have to laugh.

I read it as someone trying to check their masculinity, like “am I still a man “ if I drive an auto…or have I become the typical modern day metro sexual.

Personally for me, the thought of driving an 80k lb auto truck in the mountains scares the crap out of me..

For me all my experience is with manual transmissions and I’m too old, tired and worn out to re-learn what I know in an auto.

There are centrifugal clutches on some older Eaton Fuller autos.
They are the worst of all autos. No engagement control whatsoever.
That's what you are talking about, probably.

And there is I-Shift. The best trans on the market.
I own one. I overhauled it at 3/4 Million miles just to be sure.
I looked inside. Very little wear on synchro gears. Almost no wear on the main gears.
It hauled solids, no liquids. Up to 46.5 T GW half the time. Up to 36 T GW on the rest.
My left knee really thanks me for not using a manual trans anymore.
Can I still get stucked on ice? Yep, but it depends on tires too.
Would I look 'mucho macho' with a manual? Maybe, but...
Less and less applications require a manual trans.
