We move over wide steel plate for a dedicated customer who is 150 miles away. There is a wishy washy tarp policy. The customer "prefers" all loads to be tarped, but has accepted a compromise where we do not tarp on sunny days when there's no salt on the roads. All loads pay the same, tarped or not.
I get $215 per load. 300 mile round trip, oversize banners and flags, sometimes tarped, sometimes not, and I'm thinking this is fair for untarped loads but a little light for tarped loads. What do you guys think. Is my barometer out of whack?

I'm considering making a little bit of a stink, because other accounts we have pay separately for tarping, this one does not for some reason.
But, would pushing for tarp pay open a can of worms that could jeopardize the entire account, or, end up with no change in pay but now 100% of loads are tarped just to put and end to my stink.Tug Toy, beastr123 and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
How many hours does it typically take you to do this trip?

Man, this is what I see happening. If they're already "letting you slide" on sunny days, I wouldn't poke the bear. Good chance you end up tarping EVERY load, but for the same $215, but now you're on their radar in a bad way.

I could too. But it comes up every year, it's not just me that scratches their head about the tarp situation. You can imagine if the pay is the same either way, sometimes guys don't tarp when they should.God prefers Diesels Thanks this.

Well, I only know what's going on in your post, but I don't know what's going on in your head. So I could look at it two ways:
1. Pay is $215. That's a good rate with a tarp, and you're making out like a bandit with no tarp. In this case, keep quiet.
2. Pay is $215. That's a good rate without a tarp, but if you're tarping, you're getting screwed. In this case, you need a raise.BackwoodsGA, cke and loudtom Thank this. -
how is $215 for a whole days work good?
And it’s oversizeLandincoldfire, Rugerfan, stwik and 3 others Thank this. -
I will guess that you are a co. driver at the 300 mi. Pay 215$ deal?
Badmon Thanks this. -
When you spend time for tarping then you need to be paid extra for tarping.
Unless you are getting paid a very good rate in comparison to your other dedicated loads
