Kid just took out a stop sign in upstate NY with the car…. Sign was $480 and some 1/2 assed ticket that he deserved but I demanded he get a local lawyer , and he got the ticket thrown out . And kid just paid for the sign…..

Get a local lawyer……it’s not about the money it’s your driving record

$600 is a nice cash inflow for that small town!! The local residents thank you for your contribution.

Who keeps putting that stupid sign there? The City, same City that assigned the Cop to the parking area. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

    Hire a local Lawyer

and as mentioned , the sign might be on private property .
    Either way ,
I’m sure the lawyer can get the ticket dismissed if you agree to pay for the sign ,

Lolno another O/O im friends with ran over a stop sign in cape a couple years ago and the bill was just shy of $12,000 they claimed he had broken the concrete by pulling the pole out. So they had to dig up the entire slab and repour it along with the sign repairs atop that.

So the policeman watched you hit it, should he have turned on his lights and sirens to get your attention then came over and helped.
Something a lawyer can throw back at the city.

I will not be surprised if they do some crap like this to me. I would probably need to consult legal counsel to answer this next question, but I just wonder if that city (Or any city or town) has any special collective benefits over a standard consumer debt using traditional debt collection practices because they are a form of a government entity?

I ain’t saying he was BSing you, but the story embellished or he tore up more than a stop sign. OR cape thought it was a great idea to make a quick buck and pad someone’s pocket.

for reference concrete is less than 500$/yard. A stop sign should use less than a half yard.
10-15 hours of labor at the most at 100$/hr
Even adding demolition of the old slab it wouldn’t be that high.

now if it was one of those fancy in ground wire pedestrian crossing poles, light, and etc I could see that getting expensive in a hurry
