Does this rule supersedes the strap’s WLL?
I was once told on the scale in PA that if your load weighs x, the sum of your straps/chains WLL has to be at minimum that. That would make it 3 straps minimum for each of his stacks just as he did.

wll needs to be 50% or more then the weight of whatever your securing
you need to pull out your fmsca book again.

Well, ok. I just know I didn’t get a ticket for a tear in a strap in PA, because when the cop deducted that strap I was still secured with enough WLL to cover the weight. Otherwise he said I would’ve gotten a ticket and if I didn’t have a strap to replace that torn one with, placed OOS too. I have been sort of going by this rule ever since.

    Longer than 3.02 m (10 ft) 2 + 1 tiedown for every additional 3.02 m (10 ft), or part thereof

3 minimum per bundle on this, since it's over 10 feet.

Never hurts to add an extra strap or three

if you get in an accident , or like mentioned above , get inspected and have an issue with any of the straps , you will be glad you threw a couple extra
    On the load .

cke, CAXPT and loudtom Thank this.

    yeah, i guess youre right
just use a 1 inch strap for the 3rd one lol
when an article of cargo is not blocked or positioned to prevent movement in the forward direction, and the item is longer than 10 ft in length, then it must be secured by two tiedowns for the first 10 ft of length, and one additional tiedown for every 10 ft of length, or fraction thereof, beyond the first 10 ft.

Plastic mats SUCK. Not bad when new but get some grease and oil on them… I just quit looking in the mirrors.

Your good, other then the fact that your using a box van to pull a flat. FYI, that trailer isn’t going to 90 in the Loves spot like your used to.

I had 2 on mats before, got pulled into DOT and was told because they are not touching each other you will need 3.

When running local I run with 2 per pile, OTR 3 per pile.

When I've hauled crane mats that size or lumber, I've secured it the same way.
