Just wondering if Schneider National is still the steaming, bottmless hole of evil it's customarily been portrayed.
They're advertising in my area, claiming $35k-$46k per year, 2 days off every 14 days, and "mostly" I-5 corridor (11 western) loads.
... Yeah, and the Army recruiter promised me a station in Hawaii as a tour guide for visiting dignitaries, too...
Thanks,
Kirk

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Current state at Schneider?

Sounds like they're making you a believer. Got your app filled out?
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Can't help you much with that side of the US, as I'm in SC. But my miles haven't been too bad (though Jan is usually slow). I've also got a good DBL. We are going to electronic logging as I speak...the entire fleet will be done by August. But the entire Qualcomm system is being replaced with one that has gps, e-logging, and a bunch of new things.
On the whole, I've done far worse at USX, JB and Heartland.
Good luck with whatever ya do!JustSonny Thanks this. -
Well you could do a lot worse than SNI. US Express and Werner are two I've had experience with, and it wasn't that great.
You can count on not having a truck loaded to O/O specs, slow # 60mph on cruise, 63-65 on the pedal. But, at least in my experience over the last year, you will be treated decently, NOT pushed to play log book games either.
There are places where you can make a little more, have a nicer truck.
But until some magical elf brings back some sort of an economy, I'm staying put.
The last two months for me, I've been averaging 2800-3300 miles per week.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Thanks, i'm not sold on anything just yet. But you get a lot of horror stories about the big companies.
Anybody know what to expect for orientation/field training? I really don't like the prospect of sharing a truck with some cigarette smelling, overweight, cranky trainer who only has 10 months more experience than me but thinks he's "King #####" and i'm lower than whale turds. The only thing he's gonna show me in 6-9 weeks is where the crapper is at each shipper. -
I jst left Schneider because I was told by the recruiter that after 6 months I could buy a truck (lease purchase). Well great I hired on with Intermodal in Chicago, IL and after 7 months I had made $22,950 with 2 days off a week. I liked that and was happy with the equipment but when I started to enquier about buying a truck I was told that Intermodal didn't allow a lease purchase option. Great now I had just wasted 7 months driving for a company that wasn't going to help me reach my goal of owning my own truck. I quilt and that was in August 09.
In July they changed the pay structure, I started at .40 a mile and went to .35 a mile with .06 a mile bonus. You loose the bonus if you have a single log error/violation, accident, or late delivery. They make it almost impossible to keep that bonus. -
So, tbones, are you saying that SNI told you after 6months that you HAD TO lease a truck or quit, or did they just say you COULD lease a truck if you wanted to?
I'll never lease a truck from a trucking company. If I wanna be an o/o, i'll save my money and buy an older truck outright, to start out with. I just don't see being an o/o right now, too many expenses.
.35 cpm doesn't sound really great, unless you're constantly getting 3500 miles a week. I never factor in bonuses when considering pay, because it's like you say - they'll find a way to screw you out of it most of the time.
Anything you can tell me about their training period (length, oddities)?
Thanks,
Kirk -
.35 doesn't sound great !!!
You better hurry, before their next pay cut !!!! -
Sorry you miss understood what I had said, the recruiter told me that after 6 months I could lease a truck and become an O/O but Intermodal doesn't use O/O. I could have stayed as a company driver but that isn't what I had hired on for. I want to own a truck.
You'll be lucky if you get 2700 miles a week the trucks only do 62 MPH.
SNI isn't a bad company to work for and the money is decent I left because they weren't going to help me reach my goal of owning my own truck. Just be prepaired to be the second slowest truck on the road and you'll bust your a-- trying to get 2700 miles a week.

You don't lease a truck and become an O/O . You BUY a truck and become an O/O . Have you ever known a L/O to take "his" truck and go to work for another carrier ?
