I'm well aware of the difference in pay in America, I worked my way up to a union job, and in 1998, $35 grand was indeed "making it". There have always been those jobs that paid extraordinary, and cryogenics is one of them, but it's unfair to think anybody can jump right in to those jobs. While I'm happy for you, most drivers will never get a chance to work for those companies, and may go into trucking because "Chinatown says we can make 6 figures driving a truck, oh boy", and are usually disappointed at what they end up with.
I don't believe in the"adjusted for unflation" malarky, I still say it was easier to come up with $100 back then, than $1,000 dollars now,,,,adjusted for inflation, that is. I knew a couple guys that worked for Air Products, try as might to get in, they NEVER had openings and for good reason. It's highly specialized, and Joe( or Joanne) newbie will never make that kind of money. My other point still stands, 6 figures to drive a truck, ANY TRUCK, when people are saving lives for a lot less, it contributes to the American axiom, "I'm okay, who cares about the rest", and will be the final nail in the coffin for America. We're almost there now. I know it may be tough for you to see, having money, but our glitzy way of life is in peril and you'd have to be living under a rock not to think so until you go to the bank to cash your big check, and the teller says, "sorry, we're out of money", the fun stops there. Too harsh? Maybe, but this old timer sees a path we're on, we won't be able to recover from, no matter who is in charge. Quite frankly, I hope I'm dead by then,,,.

you wanna know something else that’ll blow your balls wide open? I see everyday 20 year olds turning 5k into 30k every week on the stock market. Imagine you working a year to make 35k and a slick stock trader makes that in a week while sitting in their bedroom.

every decision you make brings you to today, as we know, and the only limit is our tiny brains.

I’m with Messer LLC on the SORT team. It stands for Special Outtage Relief Team. They work with me on accommodating what works for me and with the opportunities that they have available and always recognize that I am the captain of the ship. I have a hard time believing someone could even make 6 figures, much less $150 grand. No wonder our country is so screwed up. Many of the jobs I see here are, for example, a T/T mail hauling job, $32.10/hr., and a water tanker job, $29.50, or about $60 grand/year, a far more plausible amount. Cryogenic tankers are pretty dangerous, it's not like a van of axxwipe, but it's not right to make everyone think this is normal pay for a truck driver. I read, the average pay for a Walmart transport driver is about $76 grand, 6% above average, not the $110 grand they tell you.

Your assumptions just aren't true. We have a 60 hr 6 day mail run pays 106k. I've made over 70k with mail for the last few years, most of which were over 80k.

Okay, I'll eat a little crow, certainly not the 1st time in this business, I did a little research, and I'm simply appalled. Cryogenic tanker drivers do INDEED make about $2,200/week. Some other drivers pay of note, Buster Brown, who used to be the absolute ZENITH for pay, about $65 grand, a Safeway driver, the 2nd most highest pay in my time, at around the same, seems most driving jobs hover around $30- $35/hour, and me, who made a paltry $35 grand for doing essentially the same thing, and don't give me this "hazardous" pay crap, I did plenty of "hazardous" things before they were even known as hazardous.
Now, lets put things in perspective, and why I'm so upset. I realize a cryogenic tanker driver is not for the poor schmuck that can't figure out how an air brake works, they are top of the line, they have to be, like a suicide jocky, the stuff they haul can kill, BUT, and here's the frustration, you aren't worth TWICE what a LEO has to put up with, nor THREE TIMES what someone in the healthcare field does holding someones hand as they die, I'm sorry, aside from the inherent dangers of the job, you are still "just a truck driver", and for the record, cryogenic drivers haul to food plants, manufacturing, etc, in a depression, and it's coming BECAUSE of such out of whack salaries, with plant shutdowns immenent, guess who will be sitting. Sorry for the rant, it may be an "old timers" view, but are we any better today, $110 grand/ year is what it takes to live? Pixx poor,, no wonder we're in deep trouble.
Oh, one more thing, yes, Chinatown does provide a service, but in MY day, only the crummy companies were looking for a driver. The reason there's an opening is someone else got pixxed off and quit. The "good" companies never had to advertise. I guess that's just not true today.

Everyone is hiring. UPS is hiring anyone trained on a 10 speed straight into linehaul up here.

A lot of Walmart guys make over $100,000… even those of us contracted to Walmart do pretty well.. of course, I make considerably less, but, I work less too AND have my furry copilot with me doing it! Yay!

How close do I need to live to the location given in a posted Messer "SORT" job position?

Or....if they need/want SORT drivers badly enough--does it really matter (I take it these are pretty much "flex fleet" OTR-type opportunities)?

Also: for a SORT/OTR driver--what's the home time like?

The closest Messer terminal/facility for me is in Adel, Ga.
