Depends on the size of the crane.
The difference between men and boys is the price of their crane.
When I did generators or gen sets, we used some HUGE cranes at times. They were basically $10K day. That was 15+ years ago.
But we never just put stuff in a lay down yard, hence larger boom.
Riggers are a lot too. Depending on what they had going, I could see $15K.
Crane was probably booked by another customer, so just couldn't stay at the site.Vampire, Sirscrapntruckalot, Siinman and 8 others Thank this. -
How much work do you get from that broker? Enough to want to keep his business in the future? If so, then you better pay him. If he's a reasonable person he might knock some of the cost off but since the mistake was obviously yours I wouldn't count on it. I had the exact same thing happen and I came out ahead in the long run. It still hurt to write a big check though.
This is something that all those newbies that want to start trucking companies should know about. One driver making one dumb mistake can cost you a bunch. Fifteen grand is peanuts compared to the cost of a wreck or a hazmat spill.Vampire, Rubber duck kw, Siinman and 6 others Thank this. -
It's only ok for the crane too be late!!! 08:00 crane appointment and the operator rolls up at 07:50 and takes an hour to get setup. Happens a lot!!!JoeyJunk, 4mer trucker, Diesel Dave and 6 others Thank this.

That sounds more like a scheduling issue with the receiver. They scheduled both the crane and the truck at 8:00 a.m. not realizing the crane needs time to set up before the truck gets there.
Now if the crane was scheduled for 7:00 a.m. and shows up at 8:00 a.m. yes that is an issue. -
This sucks I do a lot of these and have never had a issue but man you got me thinking! Jeesh!
I can't even imagine what this owner had into this project! Brand new 3k psi 22k lb hydraulic press....Ohio to Penn Yan NY....me, the maker of the press, a crane guy, and a wicked rigger setup with 4 guys. 53' aluminum tilting low boy conastoga with a Kenworth daycab!
Really sorry to hear OP. If I was involved I would waive my fees or at least heavily discount them for honest mistakes that happen once in a blue moon. 15k seems insane to me.BennysPennys Thanks this. -
Thank you for all the responses nd
Yeah he's usually pretty good and we've been doing business for a while, I'll just go ahead and pay the $15k. He sent me the invoice that came directly from the crane company and it was actually $16,500, the broker paid $1500. -
crane operators and iron workers ……. Some big egos there…….JonJon78 Thanks this.
