yep mark is right, we checked into it you have to have a good internet connection for voip to work properly and not have anything else using your bandwith in the background ... we wanted to replace our land line 150.00 a month however with even 1800 down and 400 upload it was going to be glitchy....yes it will work, albeit with poorquality!!
The magicjack...bye bye cell phones (kinda)

I use it at home all the time, I was just wondering if it could be used via wireless internet because I have never tried it. I have also used skype and I really like it too. I currently have an iPhone with AT&T and I really like it.

VOIP doesn't work well over wireless connections, most wireless connections have a high latency.

Ok in an effort to reduce my cell phone usage I was using Skype the 29.00/yr one which allows me to call any cell or landline # . I'm using the Virgin Mobile network (which is really Sprints) for internet in the truck and for the most part yes the latency thing was a bit of an issue but tolerable. Bandwidth usage was approx 10 mb/hr using skype for chatting on the phone. Yes a 3G connection was needed. I bought the Magic Jack the other day at Radio shack for 39.95 which by the way came with one years service which made the adapter actually cost 20.00 and one years service is 20.00 (ok 19.95 but using round figures for comparison). My laptop in the truck is in one of those Ram Mount systems, I use the bluetooth from the laptop to pair up with my bluetooth headset for my cell and presto wireless talking using Magic Jack (there is a provision in the setup for using a head set with the computer) this way I don't need a reg phone hooked up to the Magic Jack to use it. I found the MagicJack to be clearer than Skype and less latency (not much really just enough to notice) Magic Jack uses approx 8 mb/hr compared to 10 mb/hr with skype. There is also a setting in Magic Jack for an Air Card so it manages the slower connection better than DSL. Conclusion Neither one of the above are perfect but for 39.95 what more can you expect. And after the first yr its 19.95/yr (for now lol) for unlimited calling North America wide. I'm happy with it use it driving down the road.......when I'm home take in in the house for long distance calling.

Please tell........me which mobile broadband service has (the required minimum) 128 kbs UPLOAD on a consistent basis?
Oh, for the most part (in non-LARGE urban areas) Mobile Broadband (Sprint, ATT, Verizon etc) are nothing more than dial-up connections.
MajicJack isn't gonna work well at all.
Oh and YES, my wife has MajicJack at home (we have a 10MB down and a 2.5MB up fiber connection) and the service is poor, with even worse customer service.
What do you expect for $19.95 a YEAR?Markk9 Thanks this. -
We have been using MajicJack here in Iraq for the past year and it works great.
