Well, they sound like they are saying the right things but only 2 kinds of people attend those "listening sessions"
1. Folks like me who care about what happens as a result of upcoming changes to the industry BUT CANT DO A #### THING TO CHANGE THE STUFF WE DONT LIKE/WANT/NEED!
2. folks like the googermint who CAN make changes BUT DONT GIVE A #### ABOUT THE 1ST GROUP and these are the ones who really need to be listening to US but, instead, are only hearing the "special interest" groups with the most money trying to bribe their agenda into public policy!
Does anyone think there is even a point to all of this anymore?
They come up with more regulations, based onn NON-SCIENTIFIC data or numbers that are just plain wrong, make it just that much more difficult to earn a living, take more of our rights away...etc,etc. And all we can do is pizz and moan about it at a "listening session" that no one really important ever listens to anyway or come on an internet board and do the same thing here or talk about it on the CB. and they PASS THE RULE ANYWAY!!!
What's the point??? They dont like truckers, all they want is our money and to be the sacrificial lamb or whipping post to be used as an example of how politicians "care about safety" for votes.
It doesnt matter what the public wants, we've saw that with Health Care! Do you think for 1 second they care what some stupid, dirty, nasty, slimeball, non-voting trucker wants??? If so, I have some land in Florida I want to sell you! -
really?
how much?
i agree, the folks in charge dont have a clue as to what "we" need, nor do they care enuff to even try and find out
how about HOS of 4 wheelers? random inspections? hell even an after accident drug screen is out of the question -
I would agree to that. The expediting industry is prime example of HOS being needed. However there are way to many doing that type of work who ' fly under the radar now" with no signage on the truck, no contracts, etc.
What FMCSA needs to do is inspections just like the kind you Big truckers go through. That would reduce the number of autos on the road.
As has been stated on other threads here and in other forums, 4 wheelers get treated with a whole other 'set of rules' and it should be as high or higher that what trucks have to go through... -
Its amazing that truck drivers have a set hours of drive time, when a 4 wheeler does not and can drive for 15 to 24 hours straight, no problem there, and when they fall asleep and run someone off the road then crash and kill themselves theres no big deal about it, but if its a truck involved even if its not the truckers fault it still is by law, they say well that truck driver shouldnt have been there, he should have been a good enough driver to avoid this, I wish they could all drive or ride in a truck for a month and see just what a truck driver goes thru on a daily basis. Then they might learn.

I don't have any of the problems OOIDA mentioned . It must be something exclusive to their members .
Seems like the ones dumb enough to do all that work for no pay decide joining OOIDA is a good idea . -
And some people wonder why employee's form a union. Form strong union's with your fellow employees and have a voice in the industry rather than the government and companys deciding what is right for you.
-
Regulated by the hour, paid by the mile. Trucking otr will always be FUBAR. At the rate the gobbermint continueto stick their fingers into places the American trucker doesnt need or want then, consider today as the good ole days......sorry for the typos.....itty bitty keys on phone, and hard to pre edit...LOL
-
But tell us of any Teamster contract renewal in the past couple of years where the members have gained , not lost . Even with UPS the union lost big time when UPS pulled out of the pension fund . That was for the employee's benefit though .

Union Wages are superior PERIOD, Its Fact.
As for contracts Chicago right now has rejected YRC's Request for a Pay cut 3 times, if your non union you don't get asked The company decides what is best for you without your say.
As for my post I am simply saying with a united voice (union) people will be heard. Without it you just Take what your given.
I don't understand why people scream and shout when it comes to election time for government officials, But when it comes to there daily work activities they let some CEO who is under contract with your Corp. decide to screw you at will.
Teamsters were the ones at the border fighting to keep the Mexican trucks out and this helps everyone.

The trucking industry needs to have a stronger representation with people to lobby the government for us, without it the downslide will continue. So if it is the Teamsters , OOIDA or ?? I'm for it. Us drivers behind the wheel complaining about constant new regulation does not get us anywhere.Last edited: Jan 26, 2010
