Hello, 2 years ago I received a ticket for going 78 in a 55. The official violation was "Disobeyed traffic control device". I plead not guilty and reached a plea bargain where I had to pay a fine but received no points on my license. This is in the state of New York.
I'm currently in CDL training and am wondering if this will affect my ability to get hired when I graduate. Would something like this show up on my records? I downloaded my abstract from the DMV and I didn't see any mention of it, but I'm not sure if something like this would show up there.
I can't find the document for the plea deal so I'm not sure if I plead guilty to a lesser offense or not.

Much depends on how the ticket is worded. Strange it doesn't show on your DMV record.
78 in a 55 is 'reckless driving' and that narrows down the companies that will hire you.
If it's not showing, then maybe you lucked out.
Definitely don't list a ticket where it shows speeding of 15 mph or more over the speed limit, unless it shows on your DMV printout. That's reckless driving and most companies won't hire you because of insurance.
`
Edit: Some small towns don't report ticket fines to the state because they just want the money. Very common practice. There was a small town in Tennessee that used to write speeding tickets in a school zone, to truckers late at night and on weekends when schools were closed. The truckers paid the fine and the ticket never showed on the DMV printout. It was just about the town keeping the cash.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
You can apply for jobs now, before graduating from cdl school. In fact, it's recommended you start applications the very first day of cdl school. Do that now and you'll find out if the tickets shows anywhere.

Where are you located in New York?
What type driving job do you want?
Do you want to run the roads and see the country or something more regional/local?

Go to your DMV , have them do a search. They can see more than you can doing that. Then you can go from there. If it's on there it will depend on how the offense was written . Don't dwell on it too much , someone will hire you .beheadedtwice, Another Canadian driver and Chinatown Thank this.

Actually it doesn't. What matters is the plea deal. If he pled down to say a parking violation then that could explain why it's not on the MVR.
Remember it's only the convection that matters, not what he was charged with.beheadedtwice, Another Canadian driver and Chinatown Thank this. -
I think this most likely is the case. This was during covid when the court was backed up and they just wanted to move people along and collect their money. But I ended up paying more than $200 which makes me wonder if I didn't plead down to a lesser offense.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

This is what I'm probably going to do if my CDL school can't give me any answers.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
