Buying Flatbed Tarps

While I imagine 8 foot tarps are cumbersome and a pita, there is still a method to them that flows when dropped and tucking excess tarp.

I’m just an outsider looking in, but I can’t imagine how unfolding and dropping four footers, AND THEN, fumbling with 20ft+ long multiple drape extensions (all that gangly material, ugh) would be a more welcome task lol.

 

just brainstorming here.. its good to think outside of the box sometimes. even know most ideas dont work in reality

 

You’re actually the one that came to mind. I thought I saw you mention, maybe even in this thread, that you wrestled with 8 footers on every load for the first year or so.

But, yeah, thinking outside the box is good. But, I just can’t imagine wrestling 2-4’ drapes around a load would be easy. Probably why you don’t see extensions, but run across the occasional poor Tibbit bunching up 8 footers on flat steel lol.

I just put a new condenser in my A/C system, because I could see where it was seeping. Drew the system down, and it won't even pull 30 inches of water, much less hold a vacuum. I thought I was frustrated enough, and now I'm reading about tarping. Just can't get enough I guess, lol.

Check the schraders on the service ports.

 

My customers are many, so i never know what size tarps i might need. Just went through some custom 8 and 6 drop lumber tarps i wasn't satisfied with.

Sunday i ordered 4 24x18 steel tarps. Should be able to cover anything. Every 6ft drop load i've tarped had extra tarp, so i think the 18' will be great, then i'll use the 24' on tallerloads.

That system was around in the 80's and 90's and the drivers I talked to did not have much good to say about them. There was small d-rings inside opposite the lowest set and Velcro pieces on the inside of the top tarp. there were swivel snap hooks on the top of the extensions. They said it took an extra 30 min to tarp a load.

 

I've got a set of 10' drops designed for a 53' step that I will let you have for cheap. However, I'm in SW Colorado.

 

I've got an old 8 foot drop that I can see about having my partner sew some flaps with grommets on the top corners of the inside. They'll have to be done by hand, since I don't have a sewing machine with the power and long enough arm to do. I should be able to run stretch cord or rope from the bottom end up to the inside to keep them at 4 feet. When I want 8 feet, I can just remove the J hook and pull the cord out. We've been busy lately, so it might be a bit before we get around to it, but I'll let you know if it works.
