Rule of thumb: you go home and clean out your truck. Then you go to the terminal, and quit. Never show your ace of spades too soon in this industry. 2 week notices don't work in trucking.

For the most part,yes, though Schneider was recently able to get one for me from Dallas to Memphis to recover a truck. The rental companies are short cars and they don't want them moving to other regions.

 

To stay afloat during the height of the lockdowns, they sold off much of their fleets. Apparently they are unable to replenish due to shortages, or that's whats been reported anyway. So the rental agencies have been reluctant to give up cars by renting one way. It's very difficult or impossible to find a one way rental in or to most markets.

 

You know guys, when you have a termination date agree with by the company and are stuck by the company’s actions or lack of actions, it isn’t abandonment, your termination for employment is already set and the truck becomes their problem.

When the op contacted the company and told them that the truck can’t be driven and it’s their problem, then it should become the company’s problem when the time ending the employment happens.

the dac problem is bs, put in a rebuttal which the company can not get removed and move on to the new company. If the new company squawks about it, tell them you didn’t work for the company at the time which is factual.

No driver is a slave or indentured servant.

Indeed they do. Go from being treated like subhuman scum to being appreciated, and you'll stick around for a long, long time.

We use DAC, but not in the traditional sense. Its a great way to verify dates of employment and conditions of termination without having to pay for a third party service to report the same thing to us. We really don't put much weight into what remarks we see, unless its being terminated for running a reefer out of fuel and losing a load, hitting a bridge, or drugs (although we'll find that out elsewhere, too).

 

Never give 2 weeks notice while on the road. Never.

That's how you leave OTR jobs.
Treat them the same way they treat you.

They route you back to the yard under a lie,
Then throw you out on the sidewalk.
That's how this industry works.

I mean of course the company wouldn’t pay. I’m pretty sure welding a drive shaft is an illegal repair. Right???
