1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I'm in desperate need of employment. I'm at my wits end when even Wal-Mart and the fast food restaurants say "No more jobs." My CDL is still current. Are you still looking?

Once again, you would not have found any "woeful tales" from someone that drove for MCT, as MCT doesn't hire drivers. You may have found some from people who were owner operators contracted to MCT or, the more likely scenario, from drivers who drove for an Independent contractor/fleet owner who was leased to MCT. In that scenario, their complaints should lie with the fleet owner that they worked for, and not MCT.

Who are you referencing when you say "you" in that statement? Shouldn't you be talking about HIS pay scale since his pay scale is the one you looked at? If you were referring to me, then you have no clue what I pay. For all you know, it may be .22 cpm straight. The OP and I are friends and we both have some trucks leased to the same carrier but that is the extent of any affiliation between the two of us.

As for the way he structures his pay, that is a safeguard against lazy drivers with a sense of entitlement. He shouldn't have to give someone incentive to simply do their job, but then again, welcome to the modern world of trucking business. If a driver ran the miles available to them and did their job well, they wouldn't have to worry about how their pay was broke down, nor would they care.

As for whether or not .34 cpm is competitive, well, as of 2 hours ago when I last spoke to him, he had gotten emails and or PM's from 37 different interested parties, and this thread is the only place he has done any kind of advertising. I don't know about you , but I would say that is pretty competitive.

Since google is your friend, look up Wood Trucking in Wausseon,OH and BP Transportation in Peru,IL. These are both LARGE fleet owners leased to MCT. You will notice that Wood's pay scale is significantly lower than what we are discussing here. Guess what though, as of last friday when I talked to the owner of that fleet, 68 of his 70 trucks were full. BP Transportation enjoy similar equipment utilization percentages in their 120 truck fleet.

The point is; what a driver is worth is not in any way determined by a driver's opinion of himself, but rather simple economics. What the market shows a driver to be worth IS what they are worth. If a companies pay is too low, they wouldn't be able to keep the trucks full and thus would be forced by said economic pressures to raise their pay in order to attract drivers. It really is Econ. 101. Some people just fail to understand it.

Well I did send off my application to MCT. I am going to call and check if to see if I am approved.

I have talked to Jeff and Dwayne on the phone. Both of you seemed like no BS kind of guys.

One question I have to ask is this a 1099 position?

It seems like neither one of you have a position open right now for a graduate. Just getting a MCT certified trainer that works for your respective companies?

I did have a line with a FedEx ground contractor, FedEx changed the rules. they want 6 months minimum. Probably pay the same as you guys.

Nope, you are an employee, not a contractor. So the only LEGAL way to pay an employee is to withhold taxes and give them a w2 at year's end, and that is what we do.

I noticed in your thread, you mentioned criminal record, most companies have a cut off as to how far they go back. Are you doing the same or completely discriminating against those who may have a blemish in their past?
Who among ANY of us is without sin?
You could be missing out on bringing on dependable, qualified, drivers who could serve your situation well. I would consider it an option if you have not already. Everyone deserves a second chance?:biggrin_25511:

Sure, but when you have a plethora of equal applicants, the ones who have a spotless background should have a better chance.

I've never done anything illegal besides a few speeding tickets that are already 5 years old. Why should someone who HAS made questionable decisions have a step above me?

"just because they deserve a 2nd chance" doesn't mean jack.
I've made it a point to lead a good, clean life so I dont have any skeletons following me around.

Tomato-tomahto...so they don't hire "drivers". They hire "contractors". A simple Google search found some bad words about MCT.

Thanks for the grammar lesson, teach. You figured out who I was talking about, didn't you?

I'm not bashing the guy for offering a job in these hard times. That's actually admirable, but your words, "a safeguard against lazy drivers..." really smacks of tired old sales-speak for "people who don't run as hard as I want them to". It can mean anything, but to the guy who's hard-up looking for a job, it's like reverse psychology. He's thinking to himself, "I'm not a lazy driver", so he takes a chance. It's the exact same BS that shark recruiters at JB and Swift use to convince people to work for them. All I'm saying is that OP (and any of the others you mentioned who "contract" to MCT) should just hire people at whatever rate he wants to pay. Be honest about it and just pay .34. If he happens to hire a "lazy driver", it's easy enough to get rid of him because, as you inferred, there are tons of drivers wanting those jobs.

Your argument holds no water because there are hundreds of companies whose pay is abysmally low, but they still have thousands of applicants knocking on their doors. You wanna talk Econ 101, why is it that everyone on here is always knocking cheap freight? It's because that cheap freight brings the prices down market-wide. It's the same with cheap driver pay. If a bunch of companies start paying .22 for their drivers, and drivers take it (and these days, drivers are hungry), other companies will start wondering why they're bothering to pay so much...and will lower their pay to match industry standards.

These days, trucking companies could offer to pay their company drivers .10/mile and while everyone would be complaining about it...eventually they would find drivers who would take because many companies are downsizing right now. THAT is the sad truth in these dark days. This is a Seller's market in a way. There are more drivers than there are jobs, so companies are able to argue that their pay is able to go down because hungry drivers will take it.

Let me be clear, though. You all can do whatever you want...I'm sure you'll be very successful. I'm just throwing a little counterbalance to the sales-speak in the thread. I used to be a salesman many years ago. I sold everything from washer fluid to vacuum cleaners and I know a sales pitch when I hear one. I know every trick in the book, and it mostly amuses me when my trained ears can hear others do it.

If my "counterbalance" will stop someone from complaining about how "nobody said it would be this bad"...my work will be done.
