I haven’t played out in the mud like that since the early ‘80’s. Since then I’ve moved machines in and out but none of that construction and stringing foolishness. I fled the patch and started hauled rigs to Ok and Tx when the arse come out of her in ‘82/‘83.Isafarmboy, D.Tibbitt, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this.

@kranky1 you sound like you’re a worn out old rig mover too!
-
Do the rates on inoperable equipment seem any higher? A rotator around here ain’t moving for under $500 with a couple hour minimum on top of that……
-
Moved a few rigs. Worked in the patch a bit when I started on my own. Timing had me out on the road after a few years though. When all the gear started heading south I hauled a bunch of it for Rolly over a year and a half. That work allowed me to buy a couple more trucks and when Rolly ran out of work for hired trucks on it I went a different direction. Probably couldn’t work in the patch now that Elmer the Safety Elephant runs things. Not like the late ‘70’s anymore I hear.

They are higher than regular rates but with all the time and effort invested would not be worth it in my opinion... we all know them wreckers is expensive as he'll, even if that cost was covered, I've never seen one show up on time before..
Which is where the thought of getting a winch, that made me start this thread and I'm glad I did, because I learned Its just best to let someone else yank that #### on the trailer and save me the heartacheGod prefers Diesels, CAXPT and Cat sdp Thank this. -
On one of my last few days in the open deck world, I got to load a Komatsu dozer with the final drives shot at a landfill and take it to the Komatsu dealer in Baltimore.
That was not pleasant.Speed_Drums, God prefers Diesels, CAXPT and 3 others Thank this. -
Dishwash liquid works great for sliding. Get the cheap stuff, and mix it 50 / 50 with more water. I was in the towing business and that's how I loaded and unloaded things that would not roll. They make "skates" for that, but I was poor.God prefers Diesels, D.Tibbitt and CAXPT Thank this.

Load a crippled crawler in a landfill site, and then go to Baltimore with it. What heinous crime were you being punished for?God prefers Diesels, D.Tibbitt, beastr123 and 1 other person Thank this.
