I don't think you are abandoning the truck when it needs multiple repairs. Making new driveshafts could take days. In the meantime, you are not getting paid. You've worked through your notice. Document the needed repairs, if the shop will write up and estimate for you, even better.

I think @Frustrated Company Driver must have become frustrated with our advice since he is MIA. I wonder if he is still sitting on that repair or grew a set and went home to his new job.

    I suspect we'll never know.

Shame all these OPs leave us hanging.

I’ve always given notice. Maybe not two weeks but I’ve always told my supervisor and we’d figure out something. Usually they’ll ask how long you can stay on, you give them a date and return the truck. Heck one supervisor paid for a bus ticket. I do agree with cleaning out the truck beforehand mainly so you’re not traveling with all your stuff and you never know really.

I did have an employer ding my dac with a ‘quit without notice but not abandoned’ when I clearly told my temporary ( a couple months) dispatcher I was cleaning out my truck because she didn’t care to get me home anywhere near on time for an emergency dental appointment. She said “do what you have to do”. I never did dispute it and I dont think it made any difference anyway.
