Tanker & Haz-Mat

I guess that I will throw my two cents in. You are showing your smarts by getting more endorsements and trying to expand your choices. Follow what steps it takes to get the required endorsements and then start knocking on doors. With tanker and hazmat in hand you are one step ahead of alot of the drivers out there. You have almost 2 years, hopefully without job hopping. At this point you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. I wish you the best of luck!

 

don't forget the little guys I myself could not stand Halliburton they always seem to be crawling up folks rectal orifices over minor stuff but they do pay well but most jobs in the patch do

I have been doing this stuff for sometime and always prefer the little outfits to deal with much less attitude as the bigger the company the bigger the PITA they tend to be

 

I think you just got to go out and knock on some doors. I know of a few guys that are hauling fuel now after coming out of the oilfields from companies like Halliburton, Shlumberger, Weatherford....none with any OTR experience. I dont know how far u want to drive back and forth to work, but I was told that Quality Transport just over in Waskom was looking to do some hiring they haul bulk tanks, not sure if they do any oilfield work or what level of experience you need.

Hot oilers
Water service
Rigging

Etc
Plains generally as a listing in most phone books the haul oil
there is also trimac
teppco
and last and least would be Taylor/TPG (don't get into a lease)
theres the name of some of the big outfits the little ones in that area I couldn't tell you

 

The Haz-Mat test is pretty much just common sense if I remember right... just remember SAFETY FIRST and you should do fine. And as far as the test for tanker its simple, again think SAFETY FIRST and you should and you should do fine on that as well...Good Luck to ya

 

Hazmat is a LOT more than common sense . There are a lot of detailed questions about how much weight and products can be mixed , whether hooks can be used , if the material can be loaded on a metal floor and much , much more . You'd better get a manual and study it well .

Im speaking from my experience... Renewed my HM endorsement 3 times, never opened the book to study, lowest score was a 94. If you say its much more than common sense i'll take your word for it

 

TWIC card has to be picked up in person. They have to do the final processing on it an authenticate it to your fingerprints in order to complete the activation. I understand not wanting to make the drive. I had to drive 4 1/2 hrs each way to apply, then do it again to pick up the card. That's nearly 1000 miles of driving, plus two days you can't work, just to pick up the card. And some ports still require you to apply for additional cards even though you have this.

If you've been studying and taking some practice tests you'll do fine on the exams. Think about some of the people you see out there doing this job, if they can pass it you certainly can too.
