Well one way to get his attention is ask him if he knows what the fines are when you get stopped. Not only will you be fined, so will the company. Might put him out of business. They don't play around with haz Mat any more. Oh yea just imagine what the shipper is going to say because they could get in hot water as well. Then they will be an ex-customer.
Look up the regs and the fines involved. It's scary.

It's a small fleet, and the owner knows exactly what's going on.

I'd find me another jobby job if I were you. It's one thing to ask a driver to fudge a little or something on a log but to blatantly ask you to break a law that will put you and them outta biz, is just plain stupid and I wouldn't want to work for someone like that because they'll probably end up just like Arrow.

I was asked one time to be a placeholder for a hazmat load. You know go to the shipper and just get it loaded onto my trailer and the real hazmat driver will swap with me there. Kindly said no.

I will have to say that it may be time to start looking. Keep your documentation and keep refusing until you have the license in your hands that says hazmat endorsed. It's you not him or the company that will pay the price for doing it --- YOU WILL.

Do they want you to pull placarded quantities or just HM that does not require placards?

You only need the HM endorsement if you pull placarded quantities.

    Table 1 = any amount

    Table 2 = 1,001 pounds or more

For Class 9 placards are optional and no HM endorsement is required.

    Be safe.

What is it? I assume you were pulling tanker for the guy hauling non-hazardous, now they're demanding you pull hazmat without having your endorsement on your license yet? That would make me a little big angry.

Don't do it. You get inspected a LOT more if you're toting hazmat. The fines are enough to put you and him both out of a job and close the company/get his authority yanked. And that's without getting into an accident. This guy is demonstrating an advanced case of the stupids...I'd start looking for better employment were I in your shoes.
