I have been looking for a change in my career. I've been a driver since 1992, I would like to work for someone like Upstaging or in the entertainment carriers, I had a DUI in 1992 that I think is keeping me from landing a good job! I've been applying on line with a lot of different companies but keep getting turned down because of my Dac, I think! I dont know of any other reason. I have a great work ethic, and dont mind unloading. I'm always early for appointments and I get along with almost everyone.. anybody got some advise? I really want a change. the company I'm with now has not giving us a raise this year and their trucks have really small bunks.. if I have to spend 10 hours in a parking lot I would at least like to be able to stand up in a truck, or move around in it a bit.

as for your DAC, they will allow you to "rebutt' anything said about you, try to have a lawyer write up some sort of document stating that you have been "clean" for many years now...........(you have been clean for along time, haven't you........???)

    then try these places/sites below...........

Most of the companies doing that are O/O ompanies. You'll have to look in the trucking magazines and see if anyone is hiring company drivers for that work.

I have a job right now(been there last 2 years).. I have done the on line applications.. only one company out of 25 that called or sent me an Email were willing to pay over 36 cents a mile. I was looking for something a bit better.. like the .52 cents New Century is offering drivers with over 12 years experience. well that fits me other then the fact I've had the DUI in my past(1992).
I've got an offer from a flat bed company for .41cents, I just havent had a chance to talk too any of their drivers out on the road to see if they like it working there, and if they also get the miles!

Was the DUI in '92 in a CMV or a 4 wheeler??

If in a CMV then I can understand the possible problems however since it IS OVER 14 YEARS OLD I cannot see where this makes any current problem. Swift, jb, schneider among others have a "no more than 1 DUI in a lifetime" policy yet this is impossible to verify unless one "volunteers" the information.
Old Dominion and Overnite as well as other type companies have a "no DUI EVER" policy and applies to their Mechanics as well.
If it was in a 4 wheeler then it is not worth mentioning as most Trucking companies do not go much beyond 7 years back on driving record checks and DAC/USIS wouldn't have it anyways as far as I know yet they are sneaky.

I had a DUI in '91 in a private class C vehicle with a class C license and I had to wait till '98 to get upgraded to an "A".
The current company I'm driving for asked if I had ever had a DUI when applying yet also stated that since it is over 14 years old it ain't nothing at all.

Maybe you're simply the wrong color or the wrong sex or some combination of something contrary to logic, who knows.

I say PRESS ONWARDS for you will find that of which you seek!! :happy3:

Your dac shouldnt be an issue for the entertainment trucking companies...those companies will hire anyone...especially during touring season. They dont pay much contrary to what most people think...If you like getting home on a regular basis you might not like it...plan on being gone for months at a time. It still beats hualing freight though...I have been doing it for 7 yrs and I enjoy it. The major companies are Upstaging, Janco , Stagecall , Egotrips , and Clark Transfer. Good luck.

thanks for all the info.. upstaging will not answer my calls or respond to my online app, I've even ask that they send one to my house and never recieved one!
I talked to a driver from Stagecall last week who was hauling for Hank Williams, he seemed to be very happy but the truck he was driving was not that impressive.. If I was going to live in a truck i would want one that I could at least change my clothes in without cracking my head on something!
