We may need just a little more guidance from you to help
    1. Do you want to be involved in any portion of the trucking industry,
Or do you want to make a clean break and get as far away from it as possible?
    2. Is money an issue? Full time or part time?
    3. Willing to move, transfer or travel? Or do you want something without relocating?

I am in the same spot right now. Retired now, don't have to get a job, but I could use the walking around money.
My local auto parts stores are always looking for counter help, that's one
Several production type facilities, pallet manufacturer is one, wouldn't mind being a "utility" guy there, fill in and get to know every job in the place.
Of course there is the Door Dash-Uber-Lyft- stuff. Work when you want.

I am just too lazy to look, having too much fun just goofing off....

I think most of us as we get older we’re kind of all in with the trucking thing. This is why it’s scary because one screw up and you can be done. Or if your health takes a downward turn, BAM that’s it, you’re done. And once you get to a point, trucking’s really your only option.

so assuming I was still healthy and fit, as I’m in my mid 50s right now. Hell warehouse workers are making 30 bucks an hour or more in many places. Maybe move to dispatch, recruiting, (but since I despise recruiters myself, I’d probably be way too honest for that job with other truckers) by a mini house and a Tesla and drive Uber?

I was thinking quitting trucking for good in terms of performing all the duties as a driver: No more life on the road, driving, loading or unloading, and such.

Perhaps, staying in the industry in a form of a dispatcher or a safety person could be the most realistic option for the lack of better skills. It sure depends on individual skills.
Those "other" skills are hard to identify at times. A lot of people ask, myself included, what the hell else would I be good at?

But of course, the best would be to try something completely else by reinventing yourself for the last 15-20 years of a professional life. I personally think I could try to be a hotel - resort owner-operator lol. Besides that, I just think I would suck at everything else that I would try at this point without some form of re-education and re-training.

There is, of course, a financial aspect hard to overcome when trying something completely new.

Also in terms of age, we have to be realistic too... unless we are considering to come up with our own business - which we may afford to finance, a prospective employer may not look at 50 + person as an ideal candidate for an apprenticeship.

There's not really that many options that pay well, aren't physically demanding(for an older person) but also don't require any schooling/trade/degree. I self-taught myself networking & servers, so I guess I'd brush up on that and get a simple help desk job in IT. Maybe get a few certs and become a junior sys admin.

Staying in Transportation makes the most sense so I would move into the office if I were you. Dispatching would be a good start. Lots of local companies with trucks and drivers.

I turned 59 last fall, I said screw it all and retired. Haven’t missed trucking at all.
