What are the reputable companies to work for? W.E. doesn't seem that bad to me and I am grateful they are giving me an opportunity to start a career in trucking.

Hey man congrats on the new job! Western Express doesn't have the best reputation around here because they hire people who may not have a chance with other companies (due to criminal history usually) and they seem to run their drivers pretty hard, which unfortunately translates to a lot of unsafe activity on the road ...
HAVING SAID THAT, it's still a job and a perfect opportunity to keep your head down and make some money! Your first year is going to be tough, wether it's with western, swift, or any of the megas it will highly depend on how flexible and hungry you are as an individual. When you are new, safety needs to be your top priority. Don't let anyone push you or rush you. Your not driving a little sedan anymore, mistakes with these trucks can instantly ruin lives.
Oh and also ... watch your #### mirrors thanks!
Good luck out there and know that if you have any questions you can always post here. No question is a stupid question when it comes to trucking.Another Canadian driver, CastleNut, spindrift and 4 others Thank this. -

Ok the recruiter texted earlier today and said a driver trainer would be in touch with me today. Things are moving!

You can buy a coffee cup for $5 at any chain truck stop. That usually also gives you a free cup of coffee.Another Canadian driver and Labrador Thank this.

It doesn't sound like the recruiter is jerking you around to me. Unless you have some special demand about a trainer, you are probably just experiencing how few trainers the company has. It's possible, but not likely, there could be another student closer to wherever the trainer finishes up with his current student and that student MIGHT jump the line of waiting on a trainer. As long as the company is paying you to wait, wait as long as they want. It's not something to get anxious or upset about. You might be like me, the last thing we need is more time to think of EVERYTHING that might go wrong or did one word in a conversation REALLY MEAN something very important and we missed it. You just want to do a good job and keeping your mind engaged is good.
It will be OK. They wouldn't pay you if they didn't want you to hang around for them.Another Canadian driver, Siinman, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this. -
Good luck.
If you're a reasonably together person, you'll be fine.Another Canadian driver, Labrador, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -

One good point for consideration is don't crap in the driver's seat or in their bed. Tends to get you put off the truck.Another Canadian driver, Labrador, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this. -
