Done with my second day. The driving was a lot easier today but I've dealt with some awful people today. Started today with a receiver who was irritated with me for a reason I still don't understand, later dealt with another unpleasant shipping office person who was angry that I called for directions earlier. Ended the day at a Pilot where some 500 lb supertrucker found it funny to sit and watch me back into a spot. Honestly I didn't think I did that bad. Did a couple pull ups but I didn't hold up traffic or anything. My truck is a spread axle and I have two 20k lb coils on the deck and no dump valve. Sharp turns don't work too well.
I wasn't even paying attention to Mr. Supertrucker until I asked if he could spot me in the rest of the way... to which he promptly replied "nope" and waddled back to his truck with his roller hot dogs and his keg of Diet Coke.
Another driver noticed the interaction and was kind enough to get out and help me (and call Mr. Supertrucker a few choice words) and I'm very grateful for people like him. I genuinely can't understand how some people can be so rotten but karma comes around.

Get used to grumpy arrogant people in this industry. Esp shippers and receivers.
Parking gets easier. Always GOAL.
Never will need anyone. Find the easiest spot at truckstopsjmarc77, Boondock and Cowboyrich Thank this. -
Glad someone was nice enough to help you out, there is still kind people around, unfortunately there's still plenty of unpleasant ones.

For others who read:
Gloves -- cowhide leather for fueling and light-weight work gloves for anything that isn't fueling. -
I follow this rule, even when it means paying for it. My company will reimburse all paid parking, as long as I am available for dispatch, meaning not parking for home time. So makes no sense for me not to pay to get an easy spot versus trying to blindside 90 into a spot that's looking sketchy at best.jmarc77 Thanks this.

Got it, I will park in the fuel lane from now on

Jokes aside, I definitely understand that now. I don't usually pull into the first spot I see, I take a lap around the lot and try to find the easiest spot. I try to find truck stops or rest areas with pull-in parking when possible.
I hope to find a company that will reimburse paid parking. I paid for it myself a few times. Made life a lot easier, was well worth the $15 just to save the headache.Chieftains Thanks this. -
@jmarc77

I remember my first trip when first going solo about 10 months ago. Load from Lancaster, TX to Los Lunas, NM. Got myself in a pickle because I thought I could get it there in one shift. Oops. Delivery had to be rescheduled. I have learned a lot since that first trip. From this thread, it sounds like you are doing well.
