How to enter non-cdl job in log books when driving part time?

    I am starting a part time job doing local routes with a midsize company. They have ELDs in all the trucks. I work a full time non cdl job. I understand the on-duty rules include the full time job and will be restricted by the 14/70 rules. My question is how the full time job hours are logged? Would they be added to the ELD in the truck or kept separately by me somehow?

    RODS not required on local work
    Meaning your not required to record duty status only hours worked I wouldn’t convolute the ELD with anything but the necessary information

    So just a time card from each is all I should need? I have to complete a paper time card for the company on top of the ELD. The full time job is all online timesheets. Thanks

    Would you please better define what you mean by local? I know several drivers that travel in some cases almost 250 miles from their home and they call their work local. If you are not going more than 150 "air miles" you are not required to log.

    I don't think it's over 150 miles, but I can't say for sure. I'm training on an in-town (8 mile round trip steel run) dedicated route that doesn't have an eld, but my trainer told me the local trucks have Qualcomm ends. I will be in one of the local trucks after training.

    Plus what is required by regulation may not ne required by company policy.
    What I mean by that is if the company requires you to use an eld you need to add that time as a manual entry as on-duty.

    Yes technically you don't need to. Question becomes do you want to explain to an officer that can put you oos for 10 hours why exactly you are not running a false log (by not showing all time in the ELD) or why you are running two logbooks (claim you be on timecard, when he can see the eld)

    I know just enough about the ELDs to be dangerous. It is my understanding that a driver must be logged into most ELDs. I am not sure that the act of having an ELD in a CMV is a problem for a local driver having their time covered by a timecard. I think DOT enforcement will default to the local operation. However, I honestly don't know and will not attempt to say either way. I do wonder why ELDs are in CMVs used for local driving? Unless the CMVs are doing both and then we go back to the sign-in I mentioned. I guess my answer is to do it the way the company wants it done.

    Stevens Transport has the driver of the shuttle log into eld and it just runs a 5-10 mile radius. But it's also drivers picking up extra money while on the yard. Besides the dedicated drivers.

    I would ask the Safety Dept/Risk Mgmt at the part-time company with the ELD how to manually add On-Duty time to your ELD to account for your full-time job. I would count all time spent at the full-time job as On-Duty time unless your records are detailed enough to break out and record the Driving time, ODND times. I would just record your start and end times and log it all as On-Duty. Make sure you are getting 10 hours off-duty/sleeper before you drive. And watch carefully to see if you are getting 34 hours off-duty each week or you will have to limit your driving/on-duty time as if you are running recaps.

    For anyone reading this thread, ANY JOB, counts against your 70 hour/8 day clock. It doesn't matter if it's baby-sitting, collecting aluminum cans, working as a cashier, delivering pizzas, or being an astronaut. ANY JOB that pays is a job that counts against your 70 hour clock.

    I'm going to ask once I get in a local truck. I'm going to work a max of 14 hrs a day with 10 off daily between the two. I'm off on Sunday so I'll have a 34 hr reset every weekend. I think they had the elds before the 2020 update because some routes went beyond the old 100 miles radius and have never removed them.
