Do you see hope in our future? Have things been this bad?

This question is more geared toward the old timers' experienced advice on this board, but naturally I ask that everyone chimes in.

I know this country has been through one depression already. My worry is can it handle another? The population has risen drastically since. That would be alot of hungry mouths to feed for our untrustworthy government. Do you trust where things are going right now? I personally dont have much faith in this industry, but if a couple weeks out with a trainer at Werner is all I get then I'll take it. Thats $400/week that Im not getting right now. Im expecting them to send me out for a "refresher" but to be waiting for some time to get my own truck if at all. I am 26 years old with a 6 month old son and his mother to look after. I havent had a steady job in 1 1/2 years. This squeking by thing is getting hard and we need some hope.

It's tough, but there are jobs being increased in any business that is expanding, most notably in food production.

If economic activity increases as forecast, driving a truck should get better in the short term.

If things get worse, it looks progressively bleak for anyone whose continued employment is already shaky.

IMO the jobs lost in this country will never come back (factory work)we have became a retail nation.we just buy and sell goods, the gov. has taxed the buisnesses out of this country until that changes nothing is coming back to this country if ever(top5 corp, tax in the world)all trucking has become is moving freight from ship yard to D.C. to D.C., and trucking can only handle so much of this kind of freight shuffel. theres not alot of fractory to D.C. left any more and i know there are some things made in the good ol USA just not enough to get 7m people back to work unless you like working retail (JMHO)

in answer to your question yes times have been this bad before and like before it will bounce back just going to take awhile , its taking longer this time because liberals are in control of the white house and there method of doig things never work just makes thing worse and it takes the repulicans a few years to undo what they have done and its always the same ,

a lot of drivers have lost there jobs and more on the way, a lot of owner operators have lot ther trucks and it looks a lot worse then it is but we just have to be patient till the democrats are gone and that has already startetd , but still we have a long way to go this country is in a mess, but like i said its been bad before and we recovered stronger then ever and we will do so again ,

just try to hang on and be patient better times are comming you never lose till you quit.

best of luck to you my friend. southernpride :biggrin_25514:

One of my favorite quotes of all time (and unfortunately I have no idea who to credit it to):

"Tough times never last, but tough people do". I know...easy to say, hard to live. I agree. At 49, I've been through it before.

Do you know what helps me? Not listening to the news. Oh, I get the headlines in the morning. But I simply refuse to allow my slowly shriveling brain become saturated with negativity. All these media outlets have to fill their time with something. And most of the time, that "something" stinks. I'm also an ex-radio guy of about a dozen years, so I had my fill of it.

At home, I'm either checking out an old movie, the DIY network or, uh...Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Ya gotta have a little culture!). In the truck, I generally have my ipod plugged in, pumping out some classic rock, pop, R&B or even swing and big band.

You hang in there. You'll also set a fine example for the little one.

You can also a)stop listening to all the "experts" on the cb. b)stop watching Fox News and MSNBC and all the doom and gloom they put out every day and last but not least turn off the political talk radio. Just more of the same doom and gloom. These tips wont solve any of the worlds issues, but neither will getting all worked up and angry over something you(or I) have no control over.

I actually dont watch the news at all. If I ever watch tv, it's something like the history channel. I dispise 90% of what is on tv anymore these days. Ive just been on the front lines of the unemployment battle for a while now. It's pretty grim.

That's a pretty fair statement, especially with the way the economy is right now. For those of us that are work for a living. Those of us that get our butts out of bed every morning, and those of us who would never think of letting the govt take care of us. We know its NOT a choice, its what we do to survive. Doesn't matter if it gets better or not, we will continue to feed our family no matter what it takes.

I agree 100%, I can't stand these people that live off Unemployment/ Section 8/ Welfare/ foodstamps forever. its one thing to use those government services as a last resort but there are far to many people out there that abuse these services

and to yankee texan we do have some control over this, if people would stop abuseing the services i list above and go out and take whatever job they have to and spend there money that would help alot.if people dont work and spend money we'll never get anywhere! at least until Obama leaves the whitehouse
