If that is an all you can eat place I can understand that.
    $1.00 a plate is cheap.

    Nah no way.
They usually do this when people want to split an order and ask for an extra plate.

I wonder where the shop fees are included in. The transmission rebuild is not on here except for part of the labor of the remove and replace. I paid for an outside transmission “guru” tech that I’ve known and used through out the years, and that was $2400.00 and samething, no shop fees on his invoice.

BUT if you look at the "standard" invoice you supplied. It's got the space for it.

Just because your "guy" chooses not to charge for shop supplies. Doesn't mean that they haven't always been there.

Some places charge you more for the parts. So it's a hidden cost.

I knew a place. Where you couldn't bring in your own brand new parts. Why? Because they marked up every part that came in the shop.

I knew a guy that used to let people bring parts in. Told me he stopped doing it when one of those parts failed and the customer wanted him to stand behind the job. Guy took him to court and won. So after that he only used the parts he supplied, and if one failed he had some recourse with the parts supplier. Also let him control the quality of the parts that went into his jobs.

Every shop I know charges a minimum hr fee of $105 to $125 average for any job that takes 1 minute to 60 minutes. That seems to be what you paid just in a different format. I know that all the big truck dealers and Cat shop here when I dealt with them would charge for a full tube of rtv or a full can of brake clean even if they used a squirt or two. Same with oil and coolant if they top off with a little they charge the full gallon. Even Speedco does the same.

I dug this out from last year. This is for 8 trailer tires at the Boss Shop in Garden City KS. Shop supply charge was 45.60. @Kenworth6969 found a crappy shop who used the shop supply charge to recover almost their hourly labor rate for a quick job that they said they’d charge a half hour labor for.

We also have an EPA fee here at our shops in NJ. Came to $53 on a $2100 bill.

An honest business will not try to pop an added fee after the quote was agreed on, nor hide the trick by bundling it in with mandated (EPA) fees. They will disclose all the fees when giving the quote.
