you can run flip axles as long as the load justifies it (read weight) and the axle has common air with the tandem it is pinned to. The axle is supposed to be flipped up when not in use if it results in the trailer being longer than 48’ (kingpin rule).
spreader bars with booster are a different and more complex issue and not worth going into in this discussion but California has very specific rules for them.
also Quads are not recognized for weight in California (even a fixed 3 with a flip axle)

that is not a feature of hauling heavy. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news - a set up to run a 50k load is way different than a set up to haul 80k and the set up won work to haul 110k.
You have to be realistic about what equipment and skill level you have and aim accordingly. There are many factors that go into what you can haul and where you can haul it and frankly, how much you haul it for.REO6205, FerrissWheel, beastr123 and 3 others Thank this. -

Business..I know smaller capacity limits you.My neighbor at yard does military heavy loads to Alaska.Trucks only turn once per year.Get paid to sit.His trailers are huge.His drivers make 225 per year.basicaly sitting.i live in Norfolk.alot of military workFerrissWheel Thanks this.

I’ve got an annual overweight that, and I permit in every state that I run that weight

There are nearly as many heavy haul truck and trailer combinations as there are oversized loads to haul .
My advice would be to work as a driver for a oversized company for a while .
At least a year maybe a lot longer , you’ve got a lot to learn .
It’s a very challenging segment of trucking , that will keep you from getting bored , but there is a lot lot lot you need to learn , and it’s always cheaper to learn it as a company driver for a year or three before you go out on your own .
I know one small company that does OS and they have some three axle rigs and some four axle rigs . They have some step decks , several RGNs , a stretch RGN , and a few RGNs with the booster and jeep .
You can’t just get one truck and trailer and haul everything .
Its no different than tankers .
Some are smooth bore inside , some have baffles , some have separate compartments . Some are heated , some are refrigerated.
Some are for food , some are for toxic chemicals , some are for cargo loaded and kept under high pressure , etc etc .
You can’t just buy one tank trailer and “haul everything “ in it .
Every state has different laws regarding oversized loads . Every city has curfew times where oversized loads are not allowed on the roads .Last edited: Jul 25, 2022

I pull our 3 axle rgn’s with a single frame tractor with super 40’s. I pull b-trains at 139,700 with it too. You don’t need a big heavy wildly expensive to operate tractor to tow a double drop around with. On US weights you’d be far better served keeping as much tare weight out of the truck as you can.
