Sorry its been a while since I last posted. I have been very busy with the schnieder training.

I went through the 14 days academy, 2 weeks with a TE, and a week CDL prep and Cdl test. Then went to houston to get my truck found a lot of problems on my pretrip on the truck. Set in houston a week waiting for them to get the truck fixed.

Got my first assignment at about 3:00pm this past thursday it was simple take an empty trailer from Houston, TX to Reserve, LA by 8:00pm
I-10 east the whole way. Did my pretrip on the trailer and found 2 out lights, took it through express bay got the lights fixed around 5:00pm and headed out.
Lights on trailer went out not far past LA line pulled off at Jennings LA went to tun into what I thought was the truck stop driveway. But relised immediately that I messed up and was stuck it was seperated from the truck stop and not big enought to turn around in so police had to block traffic so I could back out onto the highway. Finaly got to the truck stop and set there for a few mins looked into mr mirrows and the trailer lights was on again. Decided to chance it so I got back on to I-10 and made to Baton rouge before they went out again. The flashers still worked on the trailer but the running lights didn't so I just turned the flashers on and kept going. Got to reserve about 10:30pm Droped the trailer and finaly shutting down about 11:00pm.

Looked at the qualcom and seen I had already got my next load and Had to pick it up by 7:00AM the next morning. And had to deliver at 3:00pm on th west side of houston. Which my DOT break wasn't up until 9:00AM and I still had to trip plan, do my mac 17, and my paper work on the load, and shower. It got overwhelming. and after what I went through the night before it just got too much so the only solution I seen at the moment was to quit so I sent in a No commit on the load and put quitting for reason.

The OC manager came out to my truck and talked to me He told me to take a couple days off with pay and rethink it which I'm glad he did and earned a great deal of my respect for schnieder.

I want to go back and try again but am afraid to. I don't know If I just wasn't prepared to handle loads that tight or was it tight me being new I have know idea if that is normal loads good loads or was actually tight thats why I came here maybe some one from this sight that has more EXP can help me decide to go back or not.

Is this way all the time or was these runs really tight like they felt.

Sorry this is so long just wanted to get the whole experiance in here to see if this is how it always is or if it was just bad luck.

    Thanx,
    Bamaman

Dont worry even with years of driving tractor-trailer those situations happen. And its not Your fault that lights, etc not working. But one thing You should never do is to drive over Your hours.Your company not gonna help if You get in trouble for this.If You miss Your delivery/pick-up appoitment not a big deal(especially from poor dispathing) but LogBook violation is much more serious for You.
Take some rest and get back.Good luck.:smt039

yeah the first "cherry-breaking" load can be tough. i'm really surprised that they didn't put you into another truck rather than wait for repairs. as for trailer lights, "the God's of Lights" will bestow their wrath on you from time to time, its normal..............just do the best you can.

as for "tight load times", just do the best you can. you already have proven you CAN DO the job, so don't quit now. get back "in the saddle" and get going. you "passed" the first few tests thrown at a newbie.......

we all have these problems, in fact, when my trailer lights would go out, i'd just turn on the 4-ways, and keep going...........down I-95, through NYC, NJ, CT..............never been pulled over, in fact, its "electrical" so anything can happen at any time, and it does..........

    STICK WITH IT.................!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you that truely does help. My experience with the TE was always 2 or 3 day loads was much easier but he was OTR and I am regional And have no exp with these same day loads. so guess I just wasn't ready for them. I gonna go back and try again my STL said he would slow it down for me for a while. I'm still getting th garantee so not worried about the miles yet just want to learn the job first then worry about miles later. A good thing about the truck is its probably one of the fastest schnieder trucks LOL someone rewired the rat box so it doesn't record over speed so if I hold it to the floor I can get about 66- 67 MPH without it deducting from my bonus. versus the 63 from other schnieder trucks. Nor does it record idle time.

It will be OK honestly! My first load with K&K trucking out of Omaha, NE. Was a disaster? They tossed me the keys to an old Cab over KW. Said god bless you your a truck driver. I was pulling a reefer with co. product with the first stop in Memphis the last stop in New Orleans. I think it was a 5-stop load. First day I shut down when my 10 was up. Big mistake K&K didn't follow the DOT regs. I was supposed to get it there in a hurry. They only left 2 hrs in between the stops most of the time, which was, ridicules. There was no way that you could make their schedule in a truck that was governed at 62 MPH. I ended up trying to turn around in a church parking lot and putting the trlr in a ditch because I was so tired, and trying to find a truck stop. There was a 76 sign at that exit (Back when 76es were 76es not TA's ). When I made the last stop it was 2 days late. I had to pay for the tow truck that got me out of the ditch. That took half my pay for the load. It sucked, but I made it thru it. You will too my friend, at least you have a company that is looking out for you. K&K didn't care and I only lasted there 3 months. I stayed there long enough to turn 23, which was the magic number way back then.

I forgot to tell you so I'm editing this. If the lights are going wacco try putting a dime at the top of the pig-tale. Push the SOB in and it will hold the pig-tale in place. I pulled doubles for several years and a loose pig-tale was almost always the problem.

    We all have bad days.

My first taste of OTR was such a night mare I wanted to park the truck any where I could find and walk away. With the keys in it in hopes some body would relieve me of the problem. Man did I ever learn a lot on that trip.
