Almost forgot either Rick or Brian got into the racing business in the early 80s and there was family uproar over that too.
Drugs were pretty prevalent back then with the drivers there ...the old man left a filing cabinet unlocked once and I opened it discovering pharmacy....which kind of explained why when he got home he slept about 24 hours before I saw him again .kuzima93, Another Canadian driver, JoeyJunk and 5 others Thank this. -

I think that was more of an issue in the 70s and 80s when Harold was running the show .
When I was in my early 20s I called my mother and told her I was thinking about going to work for a cow outfit in west fargo ...it was at that point she made it clear she didn't want me anywhere near the cow biz and filled me in on all the things that went on in south st Paul....along with the shady things that went on at Stewart's.
She went to her grave hating Nancy Stewart.kuzima93, Another Canadian driver, JoeyJunk and 5 others Thank this. -

That's totally understandable
My so called mother asked me what what I had in mind to do with my life when I started my Sophomore year.. Told her I figured I would farm... she completely lost her ..S...t right there in the kitchen .. she informed me of what my Dad's family had done to him.. and why he was the way he was...to this day she still despises that family...
Ha I fooled her..I left home 3 days after graduation and became a cow hauler ... never looked back eitherLast edited by a moderator: Jul 31, 2022

We all take our own paths but I think my mother's advice was good advice and what I said is all I know other than the buckboard bar on concord Ave across from the south st Paul stockyards back in the day was a haven for loose women , road dope and ruined families.
My grandmother lived in South st Paul near the yards and on visits I was forbidden from Going to the yards ...did anyway lol.
That's all I have and it's all gone along with most of its history but Stewart, Armstrong, lenertz , beguilin were a big part of the order buyer scheme now mostly gone with the demise of stockyards.
At one point south Saint Paul rivaled omaha and Chicago.
Long gone .Another Canadian driver, JoeyJunk, Feedman and 4 others Thank this.
