Also sounds like you are gonna need some double reduction LL gears in the trans to keep the driveline happy from a dead stop.

RPM not likely to change much running a gear lower with tall rear ratios.
Its give and take. You gain road speed/lose torque multiplication and vice versa. -
The tallest gear in my yard is 3.55, and that truck was useless until I swapped the 13spd for a 15. Lo in a 13 was about 3 gears too high to lift any amount of weight without breaking ####.Nostalgic, haycarter, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.

If you want a good low gear it’s a B ratio 18 speed. The B ratio 13 is still taller than a 15.
The bigger the pinion gear gets the farther off set the ring has to be on the carrier, the more side load it will have. As stated it’s give to get.haycarter, AModelCat, Last Call and 1 other person Thank this. -
I went RTO15 with a 1241C to get the ratio spread I wanted. Only way to cover my on/off road world with single speed rears.
-
Typically the larger the pinion, the "thinner" the ring gear, until a spec is met, then a new carrier is required. The side load is a matter of the pinion gear repelling the ring. This should be determined by the input torque should it not?
-
Yes input torque will be the deciding factor. Yes you are correct on the ring gets thinner, this set will have the most offset on the carrier as well as a thinner ring. Put on top of that the torque plus shock load that will be put against it at times due to not having the proper gears down low and it’s a bad differential looking for a place to happen.

We have an old 359 with an RTO14615 and a 1241a I think. It’s a double under low .79 high
-
The C set has the 2.37 first with .81 over. The A set is 1.59 first 1.00 fourth and the B 1.59 first .81 fourth. There is a D set but I don’t know what the ratios are, might have the 2.37 first with a .79 fourth.wore out Thanks this.

Hope you’ve got a few spare motors
LameMule Thanks this.
