Have you ever wondered why people think truck drivers are dumb? One of the reasons is how they jump the gun and fly off the handle with immature rants, threats of bodily harm etc.
I apologized if I seemed callous in my statement, certainly not meaning to, wanting to give advice to someone I thought was new to the industry. Turns out she's not, he's not, and she just had surgery, so my advice doesn't fit...it might fit the next person, though..and trucking is not one of the fields where things are not easy, free, or without drama.
Mr Widow thought I was insulting or dogging his wife - that's just plain dumb, and being from the South myself, there's no reason I'd be disrespectful to a lady from anywhere, especially from the South. He wants to defend her honor by threatening me. Dumb again. As a big brother type, and having been around a while, I cautioned him to temper his reactions, before his threats and ideas land him in jail (somewhere at a shipper, a truckstop, or whatever) while he's threatening to beat people up....and then his wife would REALLY miss him.
Ms Widow, I'm hoping that you're understand that since I made that initial statement to you, then responded to you after you mentioned your surgery, you realize that your man doesn't need to come beat me up and you won't need to visit him in jail.
The next time you're wondering things like "why is my life so hard?"...think about the insane reactions I got from two people over some advice that either wasn't read correctly, or just completely misunderstood.
If anyone still wants to beat me up..and trust me, I could use a good buttwhippin' - Daddy said it keeps you humble, I'll email you my address..or when I'm driving, I'll keep you updated on my location so it's more convenient for you.
I meant no insult, so there's no need for all this silly craziness...
and formygirlz...I know you're trying to help out here, but I'm not going to read 8,000 posts to avoid the instance where someone doesn't think before they speak and they start threatening people.
Can we move on now?

Dog who alerted trucker to fire has died
By BRIDGET DiCOSMO

HAGERSTOWN ' Coco, a 4-month-old Chihuahua who alerted his sleeping owner in time for him to escape a fire in his tractor-trailer rig, died over the weekend from smoke-related injuries, according to Sixx Brown, an employee of the Cumberland Valley Veterinary Clinic in Hagerstown.
Coco died Sunday at Mountain View Animal Emergency, where he had been receiving oxygen treatment, Brown said.
The fire occurred at about 2 a.m. Thursday near the Myersville, Md., rest area along westbound Interstate 70 in Frederick County, near the Washington County line, according to a Maryland State Police spokeswoman at the Frederick barracks.
Coco barked to wake owner Timothy Harris when the cab of the flatbed tractor-trailer caught fire, Humane Society of Washington County spokeswoman Katherine Cooker said Monday.
Harris, a long-distance trucker who had been hauling a roll of steel, was sleeping in the bedroom area of his tractor-trailer's cab when an apparent electrical fire began.
The puppy started nudging Harris and barking, Cooker said.
"The puppy literally saved his life," Cooker said.
Harris and Coco made it out of the truck, but the dog had stopped breathing, and his owner gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Cooker said.
Harris was taken to Washington County Hospital, then to a burn unit at a Baltimore hospital. He returned to his Florida home over the weekend and is recovering, Cooker said.
Coco was taken to Frederick County Emergency Animal Hospital, then Cumberland Valley Veterinary Clinic. Mountain View Animal Emergency, which is the emergency weekend clinic housed in the same facility as Cumberland Valley, oversaw the dog's care during weekend hours.
The dog suffered a heart attack Sunday morning, and clinic staff members were unable to revive him, according to the humane society.
Cooker said Coco sustained extensive heat and smoke damage to his lungs.
"He really fought, really, really fought, but his little heart couldn't take it," she said.
The humane society established an account called Animals in Distress for Coco and for animals in the future that might be in need of immediate emergency care.
The fund was flooded with donations from across the nation, and one came from South Korea, Cooker said. About $10,000 was collected, just more than $3,000 of which will be used to pay Coco's medical expenses, cremation costs and the costs to have his remains shipped to Harris in Florida. The rest of the money will be set aside to cover costs of care for other animals that might be victims of an emergency similar to Coco's, Cooker said.jess-juju, The Challenger and jjranch Thank this. -
I am not trying to be a #####. What I was saying to you is that you need to know what you are talking about before you say something directly to someone. You don't need to read 8000 posts to find the info. Widow keeps us updated on her back surgery regularly If you had looked back a couple of pages you would have seen that. You jumped the gun just as much as we did. I'm just trying to point out that WE ALL NEED TO THINK BEFORE WE POST.

I guess i need to put my 2 cents in. Ronin advice is usually asked for which was not asked for in this case but merely just your opinion. i have cautioned others through out the 800 odd pages in this thread on how what some say might get misconstrude. and your advice is not the type i would have given to anyone regardless of who they are. Each persons family situations are different and i even being in the military and being far away know not to belittle anyone just because they miss their family i know because i lost 2 and i am now working on my 3rd family. Anyone who in my opinion who would come out and say those things without knowing the person or fully knowing the situation is just an ###hO!e and you being in the military should know that Assumption is the mother of all f@#K ups.

Yes they are. Just did my first yesterday in Idaho. 3 stops. 2 hour windows. The trucks are loaded first with pallets and then all sorts of stuff on top to the roof. Mine was boxes of apparell. Your job is to help with the loose stuff. Don't know your height or reach, but higher and longer is better.
I got quite a workout. Ironic last part-time gig was unloading trucks with walmart. I don't miss unloading trucks. Good luck. The Freddy folks were fairly friendly, even though it was a Sunday. Got slowed down by only two folks unloading and snow on every ramp.
Learned something critical. If your ramp is covered by snow and is uphill or even just level don't "push" the dock. The hard rubber was enough resistance that I ended up burning ruts in the snow. Could not get the trailer close enough for the ramp to safely engage. Got the first three pallets off, but then had to use pallet jack to ferry to end so the forklift could engage. If encountering those conditions either dig out your drives for traction or come in a little hot and engage brake. Even had challenge leaving dock due to ruts.mikley28 Thanks this. -
Amazing what 1 ASSumption can cause.
I was on a ship one time where the captain assumed that he could make the same maneuver a previous ship of a different class had done pulling alongside a refueling ship. That assumption caused a collision at sea, loss of a captain's career, 2 destroyed boilers, 1 lost sonar dome, 10 injuries and 4 months in drydock.
I was on another mission in an interesting location where the driver towing our surveillance equipment failed to do a pre-trip. The towing hardware failed on an uphill turn and the brakes failed to engage so the trailer went freewheeling then tumbling down the hill. $500K loss in equipment and a failed mission.
Was sitting in a bar with a buddy who was not known for keeping his mouth shut, he inserted a comment into a conversation which he was not a part of. He ended up with a broken nose and a cracked rib.
Assumptions are bad.
On the lighter side....
did my good deed for the day. While planning the trip I am now on I noticed a driver walking his dog as he passed by my truck. About 30 minutes later I see the driver again without his dog and he approaches my truck, I roll down the window and he asks me if I've seen his dog, he was letting the dog run free in a field behind the t/s and it disappeared. So I said I would keep an eye out for it while he searched around. About 10 minutes later I see the dog running around the other side of the t/s, so I get out and don't see the owner, so I approach the dog slowly and call it's name, and it eventually came over to me, shivering and scared. So I pick it up and comfort it and search for the owner. After a few minutes we see him and reunite them. The poor guy was in tears thinking he had lost his companion of 5 years and that something terrible may had happened to it.
Well, off to Liberal KS and then WI. -
That happened to my co-driver and I once, right out of Albuquerque. We're buzzing down the road, and suddenly something like a dozen cops in all sorts of vehicles burn past us. some of them coming the other direction and using the crossovers to switch around. They pull up ahead of us, and traffic comes to a halt. So we switch on the CB and someone up front's giving a play by play of the whole thing. Was very interesting.
