Good afternoon everyone. This is my first post on this site. I have enjoyed reading the post over my lunch the last couple days. I would have to admit that the back and forth disagreements are very familar.
I wanted to comment on the discussion about ham radio operators "taking over the threads". I will try to give a fresh prespective to this discussion. I am in my mid 40s, veteran, work in a professional field, licensed ham and enjoy talking on the citizen band as well.
I want to address the gentleman that didn't want to post his call first. I never post my call for the simple reason that on eham I was a member, had my call posted. There are always disagreements on these sites and sometimes they are very heated. One person in particular looked up my call, found out where I lived, did a google search of where I worked and called my work and made some pretty horrible claims that I ended up having to sit and explain to my director. Then this person called the local police department and made some pretty horrible claims that I had to explain to them. Now in the end they could see how silly it was and how disturbed this individual was, but who needs that headache? This stuff happens and there are people out there that are very disturbed and if you offend them, they do very disturbing things. So never again will I post my call so some nut can find ways to affect my life in an adverse way.
As for hams that want to "police the bands". To each his own I say. If they want to do this its their business and I want nothing to do with it. If people that are unlicensed are utilizing the ham bands let the FCC deal with it. I personally don't talk to anyone on licensed channels unless they have a ticket and can legally use that channel because then I am in violation and can lose my license. But I don't police, never have never will. There are times when someone on 11 meter will ask me to go to 10 meter to "test" their radio and I kindly tell them that I can't because it is illegal for me. But what they do with their radio and their time is not my concern. If I am on a ham channel and someone not licensed comes on and interferes with my QSO, who gives a rats tail. I just move to another fequency and continue my QSO there. Enough on that.
When I talk on ham bands alot of technical talk is flying around. I like to discuss antenna and radio theory and such. But on the 11 meter (cb) band I keep my mouth shut about that stuff, because it just causes problems. Now I have had accouple times where someone would be talking about antenna theory and such and I know it is not correct, (simply because I am sitting there with a book on my desk that says its not) and have been asked directly if what the person was saying is true. I said "well no, and this is why". That generally starts the name calling and ham hating thing. So now I just say, "you know I just don't know". And some of the people that don't know me say "well you are a ham and don't know this". My friends on that channel tell them, "he won't say anything unless you call him directly because it just causes problems." Now as far as helping people become hams. All my books are currently out to friends or friends of friends. Some I will never see again and cost upwards of $40.00 or so. I have helped put up dozens of towers and even given away two towers in the last year. I will not work on anyones equipment due to the problems that I have had with that in the past. I can take a persons radio and put it on the scope and line it up and two days later they crack it open and start magic screwdrivering it to death then claim that it was my doing......no more. And that has ticked quite a few friends off because I would align a radio at no cost, but that screwed that.

As for people running alot of power on 11 meter.......thats all part of the animal and is like trying to tell water not to be wet. It happens on the ham bands and on cb as well, always has and always will. And anyone that trys to change that is just going to anger people and give themselves a bad rep. Let it be what it is, when someone wants real help, they will come to you. If people are running splatter boxes and shoving that into an amplifier multipling it 100 times, you can bet that their personal behavior will match the equipment and confronting them will only fuel the fire. So as someone famous once said....."let it be".

This is a trucker site, am I a trucker, no more. After I got out of the military I had a route from San Diego to Los Angeles daily. did that the entire time I was in college at night many moons ago. So I hope you that are still out there earning the dollar on rounded rubber can tolerate a "once local haul trucker" who enjoys the cb and talking about the hobby.

I've run CB radios for about 35 yrs, back wehn you ahd to have call letters. I am a Ham and I don't take over CB discussions. I get a CB tuned so it transmits on Frequency, a good pair of Wilson antennas. I tune to the lowest SWR and check it once in a while. I use a Power mic and don't talk directly into it. Must work because I get a lot of compliments.

SITM, I dont agree with you. Youre one who will sit back and let the terriorists take over the world too. I willl fight for my Rights on Ham as well as CB frequencies including trying to get those running 100 Watts like Preacher in N VA stopped.

The problem always has been unless you control illegal stations no one will have frequencys ......

99.999% of hams don't care what CBers do OUTSIDE the ham bands it's not our fight it's when they decide that they have some right to be INSIDE 12 and 10 meters that most of us want action.

I have held both licenses since 1963 ..... and still use Cb as well as many of the HAM bands
