Supposedly according to a power plant I was at, you want the stacks mitered. A flat stack is a pipe organ on the highway (of sorts). Remember blowing air across a bottle? Same thing.

Any hole in the exaust system could get you a write up in a DOT inspection. I guess it's that carbon monoxide leaking into the cab and falling asleep and never waking up thing. JMO.

How about drilling a hole and adding a petcock or similar valve, so the water could be allowed to drain out while the truck is shut down, then simply close the valve before starting up.

Would that be acceptable to DOT?

I guess that would work until you hit something in the road and snap it off or worst yet tear a hole in the pipe. I just put two five gallon pails on my tips with an old broom handle when heavy rains are forcast.

    KO1927 Thanks this.

i cut my mitres into flat tops and bought rain caps from 4states and had them powdercoated black.i like the look so much i pulled alot of bolt on parts off to get them powder coated too.i'd like to get the stacks powdercoated and leave the hangers and clamps stainless.i may do the visor or mirror brackets too.you won't believe what difference a little paint will do.
