I've pulled Beer Loads, yet they were random, and 1 was really fun, mexican load reverse loaded in Laredo so the real weight was near the Tail, scheduled to Norfolk, VA., was scaled 3 times at a CAT scale in Laredo and I ignored "bridge laws" with a 53' Air Ride Dry Van, and ALWAYS took my time on Turns and Curves.
I used numerous STRAPS to SECURE LOAD.
I drove like I OWNED ALL EQUIPMENT because I wanted to get back home.
UNDER Posted Speed On Ramps and Curves and Turns was and IS best practice.
One can go slow a 1,000 times, and ONCE TOO FAST, like rolling through the Gorge in NC.
    CHEERS!!

    FerrissWheel and mjd4277 Thank this.

That is a bad exit ramp doesn't mater which direction either there's always a truck laid over about twice a month

Dang I forgot about water! That's another good example. I agree with your statement. Really when it comes to curves and grades, trucks should take it 10 miles slower than what the sign says especially at 46k!

Dry van carriers bid cheaply on flatbed freight. Total PITA to load and unload. That's just one more reason I quit swinging doors.

    FerrissWheel Thanks this.

I’m actually surprised we don’t see this way more often
I see vans loading coils all the time with only a couple wood block but I have to fully chain them??

    FerrissWheel Thanks this.

When in hauled bricks in dry vans , the vans had a wooden strips running the length of the floor , and they nailed blocking to them .
Same with coils of wire and coils of aluminum to the place that made beer and soda cans and a lot of other stuff, the aluminum coils were sitting on rubber mats and secured with lots of wood blocks nailed to the floor .

all the van trucking I did was sort of power only, like sea cans except it was normal dry vans , loaded by another driver on the other side of the country and shipped long distance on the railroad .

loads of breakfast cereal is also very too heavy , loaded to the roof , front to back .

I have seen flatbedders pull out of a steel mill with two coils in racks, loaded suicide, with two chains on each.
It’s not just van guys doing dumb stuff

I have 20 straps for hauling steel or aluminum coils in a dry van. It is easier to haul them on open deck or curtain side.

Powder Joints and FerrissWheel Thank this.

I have hauled coils in a van myself. It's not all that bad, I just prefer not to rely on the structural integrity of the walls to keep stuff from self unloading.

classic_150, FerrissWheel and mjd4277 Thank this.
