I'm in my 3rd week of company OTR training at Kriska Transport in Mississauga, I'm enrolled in the one year Apprenticeship Program with them. Took my AZ course at the Owen Sound location of Transport Training Centres Of Canada and live in a small town about 40min south of Owen Sound.

The pic was taken at a customer's location in Elgin, Illinois, on Tuesday. That's me standing beside my current training rig, a 2005 Freightliner Century Classic. Next week I'll be hauling a reefer with a 2010 International Pro Star - with an automatic transmission..!

Hey, say hi to Shelly Frew - she's a friend of mine.

Yep, KTMIS is getting all new Pro Stars, there's 40 of them across the street in the Ryder yard getting prepped now. By next year pretty much everyone here will have one, but chances are I'll be assigned to one of the numerous '05 International 9400i first. Not a bad truck, but I like the Freightliner better.

Right on, good to hear Gummiente.

I'm super pumped for the 16th. Startin my course.

What is Kriska like to work for, Gummiente as a new driver in training and rdngtn as a more experienced driver? Average time out and miles?

    Thx. :)

So far, so good - Kriska has treated me very well. They have an intense training program that is VERY focused on safety and they keep all their equipment in very good condition. Because I'm in training they try to give me as much exposure as possible to all facets of the industry, with an emphasis on border crossings and the related paperwork. I've done stints with dry vans and reefers and at the end of the six weeks I get to choose which department I want to work in.

I get paid a flat rate of $100 per day while in training and am averaging 4-5 days out per week and around 2,200-2,300 miles. Once the training is over and I'm assigned my own truck (no slip seating with Kriska) my pay will then be based on mileage - anywhere from $0.37 to $0.41 per mile depending upon the load, with regular increases every year.
