I agree with others fight it if you can. It’s worth the cost, always.
Other than that, it’s minor and shouldn’t disqualify you from getting a decent job, IMO. That is if work history is good and you don’t have any other issues. -
Some of you guys are saying fight it, get lawyer, but for what?
he was involved in a parking lot accident, no ticket issued, so fight what?
or did he mention a ticket?
This is considered a parking lot accident, nothing to do with hiring.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Usually don’t have to get a lawyer to fight an accident ticket
It’s not like when you get clocked by the radar , in an accident the cop didn’t see it happen and can’t testify in court .
The only person that can testify in court is the driver of the other vehicle that was involved and most of the time they do not show up in court .
And if they don’t show up, the ticket is dismissed by the judge .
you may still have to deal with the insurance companies arguing about who is gonna pay for the damage on which car , but if the other Person doesn’t show up in court the ticket is dismissed .
so , if you got a ticket go to court on the court date . But usually the cops won’t write a ticket for an accident that happened on private property .
most places the cops can’t write tickets on private property for anything except handicap spaces and DUIs .
Speeding and other violations are very difficult to write tickets for on private property and make it stick in court .
and for any ticket : always always ALWAYS negotiate for a reduced charge or contest the ticket . Never ever plead guilty and pay the money . now , you’re gonna pay , but the goal is to not have any points or moving violations on your record . You offer to plead guilty and pay the money in exchange for a reduced charge that’s not a moving violation . -
Not only will it hurt you, but you will be haunted by it for at least the next 5-8 years. If you decide to be an owner op, your insurance will be sky high. Companies won't necessarily deny you but will be cautious. I am telling you because I hit a small car while on a red light at 5am with my F-250 at 5MPH. The whole rear of that Acura was done. My monthly cost for insurance as an owner op and MC owner is $3,800.00

This is the issue... what you're stating right there. Everyone is saying "Fight it" or "Get a lawyer". First of all, it was too long ago to do that. Secondly, I wasn't driving a truck at that time (meaning I wasn't even a truck driver. I had stepped away from trucking for a bit as my wife was dying) so it didn't cross my mind how it would affect my driving career should I decide to go back to it. There were no police involved even though it took place on a sidewalk. I was actually in a parking space facing the side of a building and had CROSSED the sidewalk to park there. She pulled up length wise behind several of us with my truck being the last one in that row and her vehicle didn't protrude beyond the corner of my trucks bed. I looked back that way as I got into my pickup, but her SUV was hidden by my bed and shell.
That being said and at this point is irrelelevant, my personal insurance has gone through the CEILING because of that stupid 12 inch erroneous movement of my pickup and I'm fearful, as you are pointing out, that trucking companies won't want the upgraded premium associated with this dumbash fender bender.
This is all I'm asking. This accident happened last year and I operated a hot shot business for awhile up till recently. My hot shot insurance went from $1400 a month to $1800 due to the at fault accident on my insurance record. I mean... $400 a month isn't make or break for a business... but it might be higher in a big truck. -
All you can do is choose a company or two and apply. Nothing to lose by doing it. You won’t know the answer until you do that. It doesn’t matter what any of us say. It’s on you.
Boondock Thanks this. -
I don’t think it will cause you that much of a problem at all. I had a similar accident before I got my CDL. I was towing our camper trailer in my personal vehicle and stopped briefly in a rest area. A bobtail semi truck pulled up behind my trailer where I couldn’t see him in the mirror. I backed up a short distance to pull out and hit his bumper. I shouldn’t have stopped so close to the vehicle in front of me that I needed to backup and this was before I learned the value of GOAL.
In any case, I had no issues getting hired at Schneider with it. Maybe there are a few companies that it would be an issue, but the hiring requirements at most places I’ve looked allow for at least 1 minor accident in the last few years. -
When it happen to me I wasn’t even on the radar for even being a truck driver. I didn’t care. Obviously now that I am that at fault accident has been horrifying and still haunts me. I did try to fight it. I went down to the county court where I asked and they said that’s not eve possible. Those kinds of records are permanent here in Georgia. They will only get better with time. I was 25 at the time. If I stay clean when I am 35 then it should iron out and make me a reputable driver with the insurance and trucking companies. For now I’ll just pay my premium and drive for myself.
