The confusion I have is that I understand the temporary paper CDL allows me to legally drive my car and Class A rigs, however it can't be used at an airport to fly.
The lady at motor vehicle office said I can keep my commercial learners permit because it hasn't expired.....for what? To learn to drive a commercial vehicle again?? To keep the ID holder properly stretched to correct dimensions for when my real CDL gets here in the mail??
The CLP can't be used for boarding an aircraft, at least that's what it seems like according to TSA list of acceptable identity documents.
The airplane ticket I speak of would have been this weekend to get me half way across the country for orientation at Melton on Monday, but now? It's looking like New Jersey is inhibiting my freedom of movement by preventing me from flying or even renting a car. I'm assuming greyhound would likewise want some id, but I'm hoping it won't come down to greyhound.
The TLDR question: did N.J. motor vehicles mistakenly think they needed to take my current, non-expired photo driver's license when they issued me the non photo, paper, not to be used for identification purposes, temporary class a CDL today?
Thanks a bunch to you guys and gals in the forums who I know will be able to shed some light on this, or least leave some well deserved Jersey bashing here! This state is the worst!
N.J. gave me Temp. CDL & took my driver's license

Texas will take your old license also.

You can’t possess more than one Drivers License. What you may be able to do is go back to the MVC office & get yourself a non driver id card.
A non driver id card is a state issued id the same as a drivers license is.tscottme, Another Canadian driver, brian991219 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I asked if I could do just that, so I'd still be able to fly, and she said I can't have both a state ID and CDL. Me thinks she is bad at her job!GreenPete359 and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

No, pretty sure she’s correct based on state law. Texas also doesn’t let you have both an ID and a drivers license. You should still be able to fly. There are provisions for identity verification for people who don’t have or forgot their IDtscottme, Another Canadian driver and Bizzarrogeorge Thank this.

I flew to training with a paper CDL. Just show your hole punched license with it. Every CDL is real ID compliant
tscottme, Another Canadian driver and Bizzarrogeorge Thank this. -
That is false, I have a license to carry in Texas, and it is accepted as a form of identification here.tscottme, Another Canadian driver and Bizzarrogeorge Thank this.

No, I’m not talking about a license to carry. Of course you can have both an LTC and a driver license. I mean a Texas issued identification card that people can get in lieu of a drivers license. You cannot have both. My daughter had to surrender hers when she went to get her drivers license.runitaro, tscottme, Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this.

Yes, my apologies, you are correct. A state issued ID card for that soul purpose can not be carried while also having a driver's license. I was thinking more along the lines of what else can be used as identification here.
runitaro, tscottme, Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this. -
No hole punched license. She took it away. Also, the incoming permanent CDL card is not going to be real ID. The lady at the counter marked it as standard. I didn't push the issue because may 3 2023 is when you need real ID to fly, and my anticipated flight was this weekend.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
