You may need a new arm if it doesn't stay tight enough to make the shaft move, or take it off and file it to where it can make better contact with the shaft?

 

So, you’re suggesting that it’s something internal, causing it to hang up?

 

Double check you have the shaft in the idle position (fully clockwise).

And check that the arm is not up against the pump housing…..

 

Nothing can make them stick on the inside except rust if they sit for long periods of time and are getting soaked in water or bad fuel. On the afc’s the throttle shaft is held in from the inside with a c- clip. They will stick on an old unused pump from corrosion. Like said above it has to be external.

 

Off topic but I remember years ago having a motor mount go bad on my ‘75 W900. Every time I’d make a left turn, engine would throttle up. Twisted a driveline into, while leaving a small cafe, within eyesight of the grain elevator, due to this.

 

Hanging up somewhere between pedal and front side of the firewall.
