They won't even patch steers anymore. Money grab on the road.

 

Want to back that up with the regulation that says you can’t?

Wasn't aware legal opinion had changed, and they now believe this no longer applies? I mean, great news for my new steer tires if I hit a nail....

 

You’re going to be waiting a while since it’s perfectly legal to plug, patch, and run recaps on the steer axle. Of course this assumes you’re not hauling people for hire in your truck.

What’s legal and what’s a good idea aren’t always the same thing, though.

 

I generally ask questions that I already know the answer to.

 

Unfortunately those ironman tires are probably gonna be better then the latest michelin production. Lol!

 

I have the 208s on drives and they'll be about 200k on em why it's time for new ones. Think it was 1995$ for 8 like 3 years ago. All wearing good. Probably wouldn't use em for steers I have FS591

It'll be fine. Years ago l had a flat on the steer axle at the base of the ambassador bridge. Not a good place for a flat. The only 24.5 tire the tire guy had on hand was a nearly worn out heavy lug drive tire. So that's what he brought. I looked at it and thought it was going to be a brutal ride home with bouncing and pulling etc. I could barely notice the difference going down the highway. I wouldn't have been afraid to run it until it was bald other than the fact it looked brutal. And l was running near new balanced Michelin steer tires at the time.

 

I wouldn't put chinese on the front !

 

How about Taiwan or Thailand ?

 

most truck stops won’t do it. I use a local shop, aslong as it’s not within an inch of the sidewall and it’s a small nail hole he’ll patch it. It’s definitely not illegal to patch a steer. Wouldn’t even know how they could check if it was. Could be a liability later in an accident I guess, like said here it may be legal but not a great idea.
