2023 Mack with MP8 (less than 35k-been in the shop 3 times- all BS stuff- but still downtime is unacceptable in my book) Some of my KW's have Cummins and some have Paccar. Id have to look up the models. Just got a recall on my 2023 KW for a steering box issue. I know it all sounds bad, but with moving trucks and schedules around, we are still doing okay and making money so no need to feel bad for us
. I have also learned to own more equipment than what you need.
I do regret not going the glider route back when I was looking to add more fleet. I was kind of new to the biz and just didn't understand it enough to jump in on it. On another note, I have two KW's that have been on order over a year now. What a joke, and every time they delay it the price goes up. I am convinced the manufactures are screwing us big time and making more money than ever. My dealer told me just the other day, they wanted 390 slots and got 95.
I guess the reality is all trucks brake down, but since Covid, the supply issues are making it very hard to keep these emissions trucks running. I am sure there are plenty of good stories out there with new and old. I asked my service manager if he had any feeling what make/engine was running with least amount of problems and he said "they all have their problems". Not sure if the old truck will solve my issues or make more, but I have a great old school mechanic that will help me out.MartinFromBC, Geronimo17, pipeantonio and 1 other person Thank this. -

Most of the chassis that have the steering box recall do not have a defect and I think the amount that were misassembled is small. I have inspected probably a dozen serial numbers and all have so far been good to go. Call it just bad luck if you get a bad one.
Don’t mean to scare anyone further, but there is a Cummins ECM recall on the horizon as well. With ECMs being extremely hard to get, this won’t be fun either.
All you can do is cross your fingers and hope your not one of the unfortunate ones. -
To much people go into the business and spend spend spend once they start receiving Bigger pay checks forgetting about the rainy days. However, I always though outside of the box and believe on living on only 1/3rd my take home check amount. Now it's 1/6th that amount I'd look at budgeting out for myself because it's more responsibilities and margins for the trucks maintainance excluding the warranty is a necessity.JoeyJunk, Geronimo17, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -

When it comes to trucks I’m not worried what it will cost me to fix let alone what the down time loss will be…..
I had to rush a truck across the country these last few days for a job, 4 days down and it cost me 25k in lost sales. THATS what hurts me more.Siinman Thanks this. -
