so, if i get a 1 ton dually like a 2010 ram 3500 with like, say a 4/5 car hauler trailer. it will be over 26,000 lbs, but can the ram pull it running hard everyday for hundred and thousand of miles and is it legal do so as long as i have a CDL A. i understand that anything over 26,000 lbs requires a cdl A but just wasn't sure if the ram can handle the weight or is it legal doing so.
a hot shot question

no a 12 year old truck would probably have atleast 180000 miles on it . pickups ain’t built well enough to last that many hard miles constantly towing heavy to make it worth investing time and money into it. best to get a single axle class 8 truck for that
-
thank you for the response. i would rather get a tractor and trailer but in my condition with no experience and business credit, fresh out of school with a cdl a. i would like to start out and take a small step until i get experience and business credit to finance a tractor and trailer. would a 2-3 car trailer be a better option for any 1 ton 10+ older?

jethro712 Thanks this. -
Depending on how the dually was previously used, & if properly cared for it should go 300k imo.
Every time I see one squatting it's tail off I want to cry. Imo, 5 car is too much. 3/4 wedge, or EZ4 is the most one should be messing around with a dually.. -
Yeah. I just need the 1 ton to survive until I can get a tractor and trailer. I will probably go get a 5500 instead of the 3500 for more frame strengthsinglescrewshaker Thanks this.

The frame isn't stronger, the suspension is. And its not the frame you have to worry about.
A 5500 would do the job. Remember, however, its detuned to handle the big jobs with small cubes reliably over the years. Those 1000+ lb-ft numbers are great in selling trucks to weekend warriors, but shorten the life of the engine and other components severely. That's why the 5500 has only 800 lb-ft in its tuning and the rear end is a super-low 4.89:1. The extra-thick spring pack will ride like a tank whenever not loaded heavily, though, and begin to rattle everything loose. -
Yep. That is correct. I will just work it until it pays itself. Praying that nothing goes wrong but I am prepared for that also. It looks like I will be paying a premium on experience and that small step to bigger things which I understand and have no problem with. I talked to Soo many owner operator that I'm ready to jump in and go. According to talking to all the owner operator. I should make it if I work hard and do my calculations so the numbers adds up on everything even in this bad market.singlescrewshaker Thanks this.

Have you checked out insurance prices for an owner operator with no experience?
