The engine recently went down in my FLD so I'm at a crossroads. Company I'm leased at loaned me a 2019 Cascadia for as long as I need or want it. Has all the fuel mileage specs. 12 speed auto trans, carrier apu. Not the coolest looking but it is a really clean and nice truck. It's like driving a car. Pretty much everything you've always said about old versus new, I see it and agree. First couple of thousand miles looks like about $500 in fuel savings at a typical week versus the old truck. Not the first to the top of the hill but easy on the wallet and perfect for pulling a reefer.

If they end up mandating ELDs in old trucks, it's even less reason to keep it around. It will still probably be a while before it gets implemented, though.
Rideandrepair and rollin coal Thank this. -
Just a reminder there were people running old trucks before they were eld exempt. Some of us just like running old trucks.

Got rid of that one 4 years ago due to the ELD mandate. Miss that truck it was a good one. Wasn't near as comfortable as this newer one though and of course the fuel mileage was also awful in it.

I left to go camping and ride my bike. Nearly 4 days without phone service. It was just what I needed. Then I turn my phone back on and the internet is losing their minds about the possibility of ELD’s for pre-2000 engines.

I thought that he language level could not get worse than the one I see here sometimes.
It must really be that bad out there for those with truck payments and high insurance costs who started when 4 dol per mile freight was not much to write home about and now they get excited for anything that's more than $3.Midwest Trucker Thanks this.
