A Cascadia oil pressure gauge is linear, right?

    As in, it's a normal gauge? And the unmarked notches are 12.5, 25, 37.5, etc?

    Cause some random oil change mechanic at TA was insisting that it's not. He was saying the unmarked notches go like 20-40-45, or some nonsense like that. Was he on some good stuff?

    Or was he somehow right, and I'm the ignorant trucker?

    I think you're correct. Cause I've had wrench ask me what my oil pressure was after PM.

    And no one has ever mentioned the markers being pre set, the readings not being equivalent to what the hashes are.

    Yep, for sure. Although someday when I'm retired and no longer subject to random drug testing, I might change my mind.

    On another note... I recall from our previous conversation that you also drive Cascadias...

    Here's a question that's got me overthinking the oil pressure gauge to begin with: I just went from regular to semi synthetic 10w30 on my truck. Now my oil pressure at normal cruise of 65 or so is sitting lower than before, at around 38-40. It seems uncomfortably low, especially with brand new fresh oil?

    it's ok. monitor oil pressure when you stop from driving. it will go down to 15-16 psi and slowly rise up to 24-25 psi. If you see it drops less than 15 psi think about to replace crankshaft bearings or suction tube o rings or suction manifold.

    These are really calibration marks for testing the gauge.

    I would be changing mechanics if one said this to me.

    Honestly I don't know. A rule of thumb for me is replacing the oil tube pick up rings between 500K and 600K. Usually closer to 500K. Cause that tube will just fall out, then you are pretty well farked.

    I think this truck has the 10 - 30 synthetic in it, it's new to me. Start up cold right now is around 60.

    I'll see where it's at when it warms up.
