Fuel additives

If you're doing regular oil changes then you don't need oil additives, as in the oil you put in your engine isn't the oil that comes out of the ground, it carefully chemically formulated to work exactly as its specifications say. Throwing additives into it, since the additive manufacturer doesn't know the chemical composition of the oil to start with, doesn't do anything for you.

Want longer oil and engine life? Better filtration (air, oil, and fuel)

 

I use nothing in the oil.But I do use Howes when it gets below 15 deg. And some injector cleaner in the fuel at times during the year,and I have never had a fuel or inj problem.

 

Smartest thing i've heard in awhile. Good advise.

 

I remember reading that Wal-mart tested a bunch of fuel additives and found something that they proved helped fuel mileage, I never did hear just what the are using,perhaps there is a Wally world driver here that can answer that question.

 

I was told not to put anything in my fuel, I guess it friggs up the regen system, 'o7 475 cat

 

anybody heard of MOTORKOTE? I also want to know if i can buy the Spinner II system for less than $500?

 

I run Diesel Service "Diesel Kleen + Certane Boost" during the winter fuel months. It makes about a 4% difference in mpg and the engine sounds a little nicer. I generally run the I5 corridor so fuel gelling is not a problem but some of the fuel suppliers shift to a winter blend fuel which has less lubrication and a lower certane rating then what you get with regular diesel. Money wise its about the same running with the additive as without.

I've used MotorSilk on my fuel system, engine, transmission and differentials. MotorSilk is a metal treatment carried in the oil. It is expensive, a PITA to do the treatment properly, and a real risk to the engine and injectors if done improperly. In my truck, I got the lower performance improvement that was claimed by the manufacturer, about 8% after having done everything. MotorSilk is not for everyone.

 

Synthetic oils are chemically engineered to be about as good as its going to get. If the additive outfits had anything of use, the oil companies would probably have already incorporated it into their product. Considering the price of the additives for those lil tiny bottles, you're looking at something approaching $100/gal - that'd have to be pretty #### good snake oil at that price!

Heard a lot of the oil additives tend to ruin engines over long time use...

Any owner ops use fuel additives to there trucks? I bought a truck and have used a Lubricante and anti gel to my fuel tank (once) and need some feedback...??? Why do O/O use this and company trucks dont..?? I would like some feed back on this, why use it and why NOT..?? Thanks for any replies. Drive Safe
