This doesn't apply to reefer drivers.

It does. Average 1200 miles per week at I-Haul.
According to my former colleagues, who works there now.
Bison loads are lower, but they have a new owner now.
They might do OK, in the end.
Transx miles are low too.
Their main customer, Costco is cutting loads left and right.
Key West are still holding, but they are small and dedicated.
T.E.A.M.S are still holding too.
Those are all Canadian carriers.
Loblaws share is growing, but they are not a carrier.
If you guys in USA see a different picture, please share.
The reefer loads might go up maybe past mid October, maybe.BigHossVolvo, Flat Earth Trucker and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this. -
Now that OPEC+ slashed 2 million BPD production I'm thinking things will be getting nuts in the patch. Already seeing an uptick in big iron moving around.

Recessions have never affected refrigerated loads in USA.
May not get the same loads as usual, but still plenty of loads to go around.
I pulled reefers through two recessions and it never affected my paychecks.
Drivers used to say, on the CB radio, "Where you headed driver?"
I'd say "Florida."
They'd say, "Tough luck, you'll be stuck there or deadhead out."
I'd say, "Well, we'll see."
I was never stuck there; not even one time. Never stuck in California either.
That's one reason I liked refrigerated trucking.AsphaltFarmer, ThomasTrucker21, RubyEagle and 8 others Thank this. -
Never did mine.
Somehow this time it may be different.
Interesting article regarding the shipping lanes:
Don Surber: Shipping down 75% ahead of Christmas shopping -
That doesn't apply to reefer drivers. During Christmas, refrigerated loads increase. Lots of food to be hauled for all those family get-togethers and those big meals. Lots of extra meat loads such as hams and turkeys. Lots of candy and whipped cream and 5 gallon pails of cream used in baking cakes and cookies.mjd4277 and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

Many of the folks I talk to don't plan on having get togethers like they normally do. I know I'm not burning $1.70+ litre gas to visit anyone this weekend (Thanksgiving). Couple beers and a burger are my plan.

Building back better. Yes things are so much better now, what a mess we are in.

Not to mention the water levels on the Mississippi are so low now, barges are starting to run aground. How are farmers supposed to get their grain to market? They say rail and trucking are both maxed to capacity. This couldn't come at a worse time.
