Welp today was not a good day. My turbo actuator sized up last week so i ran it into a shop i trust on monday after sitting all week. They popped a new actuator on this morning and ran the truck up to test everything was working and make sure THAT was actully the issue.....and the turbo went pop.

Turns out it was not the correct turbo for my rig. Someone before i bought it put a cheep chinese knockoff on my rig and said cheap turbo is likely a good part of why my emissions failed and has only been giving me about half my rated boost this whole bloody time. Why no one ever caught it ill never know but yay! There went $7500 since it also took out the new actuator when it blew lol.

    #### man. This is yet another reason I would rather buy new instead of used. You never know what someone else did to that truck until it cost a #### load of money. Sorry to hear about this but hopefully it will put you back on track with out a lot more problems. Just wondering what kind of boost was it getting?

Hard to tell for sure but the techs are gussing based on computer reports 11 to 13 pounds under load and was reporting 30 to 35 to the guage. They found that out because even after the turbo blew it was still reporting 30 to the guage when they put power to it lol....

A_f you sure have tuff luck, but to be honest I think you need to stop flogging that bullfrog. You seem one of the most optimist blokes around, use that to your advantage. Surely with the run you have had, a couple years in the industry, and runs on the board with what you have paid out; you can convince a salesman to help you with a new or very near new truck.

The money you are dropping on repairs should easily pay for a new one.

Now its true with new there is no guaranteeing it won't have an issue, but the odds are on your side it won't. People only remember the wow stories, but there has to be 1000s of new trucks getting around without issue.

COVID has caused issues with mechanics and supply lines regardless if the truck is new or old.

I'd be asking the dealer who has been working on your truck to reconsider what's possible for you to upgrade. Use the story you are thinking of leaving the industry as you can't get into a new one, and scared badly by second hand. He won't want to loose you as you have proven tuffer than nails and a stayer.

Failing that, look for a brand you go past regularly or based close by, and ask them what parts do they have within a 1/2 a days supply. You are not interested in a truck if parts are not close, as you can't afford the down time. They may see that as BS as you sure have a lot off it, but they also want the sale and should have parts near by regardless, not 1000 miles away.

good luck, its been a hell of a read and hope your adventure starts to rolls a bit fairer.

Oh trust me im already lowering life rafts on this rig. I was looking at getting a new truck regardless or barring that doing a full engine and powertrain swap. Which will depend on what comes avalible first, though my best friend just got me a stripped 6nz core as a birthday gift.....so its leaning quite heavily towards new powertrain. Before I was going to do that westy which im glad i passed on as they called everyone who bought a slot including me and said the trucks got pushed back to 2024. My big problem is ive not quite hit 2 years in business so a lot of banks that WERE willing to work with me are backing off due to the economy problems. This only leaves the banks with either high intrest or requireing a high down payment.

The other thing hurting me is i cant ditch this truck easily due to being modified if you catch my meaning though i only owe 35k on it. So right now my best option is to just keep this on the road while squirreling away cash until i hit the tipping point and can pull the trigger on something. Right now i need to just hunker down till i hit the 2 year mark then i have options for new or ill have the capital and can use say DAG to finance an engine swap.

I COULD buy a random used truck for 40 or 50 and honestly i cant see a situation where its a lot worse then mine but at the same time...well parinoia.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I have two new KW I have been waiting on for a year now. Insane. It really put us in a bind last fall but we pushed through it. It will get better one day soon. I learned a lot over the years and still do every day. There is never a perfect answer, sometimes I think its just dumb luck. Sometimes you are the bug, sometimes you are the windshield.

So it wasnt JUST the turbo. Turns out my EGR is also entirely borked just like i originally thought. Though i only got the "what" right and not the why.

See that bottom valve and how it has a little round peg? Well that peg is press fitted then welded to attach the valve door to. What happened is that weld sheered off so any time i go to accelerate that flap is basically spinning like a gyro in there which is chokeing the hell out of my engine. Its also letting soot down into the intakes which is very likely why my turbo and another clue as to WHY my emissions failed.

Fun fact the part is $3000 new or $600 for a salvaged one.

our turn signal on our (6 month old) 2023 Mack went out. $2300 for the assembly. Its under warranty but we need to wait a month for it to come in. Hood latch was shot, and now hood bolts are all messed up and need to be repaired by the body shop. So now I have a truck down a month for a turn signal and down a week to fix the latch bolts? Its hit or miss. I also have a 2021 Mack that have had very little problems so far. This new one just hates me.
