You don't need Haz Mat... but if you have the endorsment and your sitting waiting for a load and a haz mat load comes available... its the difference of WAITING LONGER or taking the load and making$$$$.

personally, for what aggravation we go through to obtain the endorsement, as well as the fingerprinting and background checks, i still think its worth it at any cost. like the other poster said, if you are waiting on a load, but only a hazmat becomes available, why sit longer and not get paid...?? furthur, you could be sitting an incredibly LONG tone before a load becomes available, or the company can deadhead you to god knows where................

i think it comes down to some basic thoughts here:

without the hazmat endorsement and fingerprinting and background checks, a driver is "hiding" something, no matter what anyone else says........that will always be my first thought about not getting the endorsement..........

a hazmat endorsement MAY increase your earning potential in the future as YOU will be available when YOU are sitting someplace, and a hazmat load becomes available, and THE OTHER DRIVER DOESN'T HAVE THE ENDORSEMENT..................

seriously, would you rather sit for either hours on end, or days on end, then come here crying about that fact you ain't making no money.....????

prodriver, you make some good points in your post.Course there are other views on this subject.I have been kicking around this business for several years. In my experience with over the road companies, they haul very few hazmat loads. So its very seldom they will come up.When you cross a scales, who is going to get pulled around back for a DOT inspection.Naturally the placarded vehicle.I was retired but have since had to go back to driving due to things that come up in life. When I renewed my CDL the last time they had come up with this deal, where you have have a security ck.,be fingerprinted, etc.Plus all this mumbo jumbo has a cost of about $100. which comes out of your pocket.I told the gal at the license bureau that if someone ever wanted me to haul hazmat they could also pay for my security ck.I have absolutely nothing to hide.It is just nice not to have to mess around with the hazmat loads.Since coming out of retirement I have driven for two companies, and I have never needed the hazmat endorsement, and I dont want it.

Both companies seem to get good reports here.I drive for Roehl and other than a couple of minor incidents that I have taken care of thru dispatch, things are fine.Freight is gonna be slow everywhere til about the end of Feb.So I can say from my viewpoint that Roehl is a good company. As far as Crete is concerned there are a lot of positive posts here on them. All I can say is either one should be a good pick.Good luck.

That is a tough choice, because I've heard a lot of good about Roehl, and I know that Crete is also an excellent company, having worked for them. You'll just have to compare and pick which one meets your needs better. Either way, I don't think you will lose.
