How about a piece of machinery, 14' 2" x 32' x 8', fully tarped, 47k lbs from Houston to Detroit?
Let's see how fast he can quote that.Another Canadian driver, bryan21384, Siinman and 4 others Thank this. -
The only way to restrict (not stop, it's impossible to stop) pendulum swings would be MASSIVE governmental intervention. Most regular TTR members think I'm an order of magnitude to the left of Lenin, but that is a HUGELY bad idea. Each individual needs to determine their own profit level. My company has third party carriers handling some of our contract freight. The drivers for those carriers think they are making 'good money', and to an extent they are. They make more hauling those loads than I would, but I make more overall - by a significant amount. Even if I were to move into the market they are servicing and get a home daily job I would make more than they do, but they are content enough to try and recruit me who makes 25% more than they do.
Lot's of folks on here won't like it, but the first step is making AB5 type laws universal. You either own and control your own business or you're an employee. I've said it before and I'll say it again - most lease operators are employees on a different pay schedule. The next step is means testing for granting of authority. I'd argue for having 1 year of operating expenses in cash/liquidity before granting authority, but would settle for 4 months. Personally I'd like to see the CEO of any trucking company be mandated to hold a CDL and haul 10,000 miles per year, but that's me talking after my third beer.
The problem is that if everyone posts their bid (or accepted) rate, then everyone knows how to underbid. And that's IF everyone is HONEST. I guarantee you any system set up to publicize rates will be infiltrated and deflated by brokers (please see Uship, or Convoy, or ...)
Right now you're King Cnut commanding the tide to roll out and expecting it to comply. You're also the guy who thinks it's 'normal' to pay escrow to secure a job. Frankly, you don't know didly about squat didly.Sirscrapntruckalot, Another Canadian driver, bryan21384 and 4 others Thank this. -
FYI...you're probably right about NC to IN. What my data tells me is to stay out of that lane...if $1200 would be the best rate.
Having a way to calculate rates in real time, considering fuel prices and all the variables in my equation, I can assess what lanes to plan trips around.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -

I don't know oversized loads. I said VAN freight. People just have to try and trip someone up...not one of you jerks have said, "Hey, that's a little higher or low or just right..." It's all, eff this guy...we know what to charge. Good Poncho, this isn't about you.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
