Dot foods called me back. Things are slow right now, so they're not looking to hire any owner operators right now.

Interesting, but it is just one driver out of about 370 that they have. Sure there could be others who feel the same way, but they don't seem to be talking about it a whole lot on the internet.

If all you have is your tractor at the moment, why not look for a power only company to drive for on a temporary basis.

The boss is trying to get it set up. He has to set up his insurance for power only since it currently only covers his own trailers and not other companies trailers. From what he tells me, the money is so bad in power only that it's barely even worth the trouble, but he doesn't want me to sit. And he is also kind enough to try and get me a power only load to wherever I need to go to lease on with someone else.

Didn't really like the reviews I read about that company. If you work there or had worked there before and could vouch for them maybe I'd give it a shot. Seems risky otherwise.

Never spoke to any of their drivers so wouldn’t fully know. Although I’m sure you wouldn’t have to worry about half the things company drivers deal with. Maybe check for some threads on here possibly

There's only one thread on here and it's some guy that was pretty mad at them for some reason. I'm gonna ignore that guy obviously because he seems like just a butthurt a-hole, but that still means no positive forum thread about them either. I've never heard of the company and frankly I don't like the idea of working for a company based in the South as I'd prefer not to run down there constantly.

Edit: when I say a company "based in the South" I should say "that part of the south". Because Helwig is who I'm probably going with and they're based in Texas which is part of the south. Unless you consider it the southwest.. maybe that's debatable.

I made the decision to go with Helwig. The boss got me a JB Hunt power only load going down to Texas from Indiana so I'm not deadheading all the way down there. He's a good friend so I will be keeping the license plate, iPad, ram mount, and Garmin elog that was provided to me when I started until I get a chance to stop by and give it back or mail it all back to him. I'm gonna stop by the house and borrow a heat gun from my dad to get the letters off my truck before I go to orientation at Helwig on Monday.

I'll be starting a thread about Helwig on Monday and continue to update it as I go along.
