Hello everyone. I am a new AZ driver in Ontario. Specifically Timmins, ON. I got my AZ threw Ontario truck driving school but have not been able to even start my career in trucking because nobody will give me a chance with no experience. Can anybody give me some advice where I should go from here? Im tired of getting frustrated not being able to get a job so I need some advice from the veterans. Thank you very much

Start knocking on doors and see if someone will hire you . usually only the mega carriers like challenger,Kriska and Bison will hire newbies but the mega’s are very selective on which school they hire from . You can’t just go to any random trucking school unfortunately.I found this out myself back in 2008 spent $3k getting my license then had to do a refresher at crossroads for another $3500 just to get hired by schneider. Most new drivers at my company went to Humber college and I hear it’s $10k now . Unless you want to relocate being you’re from a small town you might have to start driving a DZ license truck like a box truck and work your way up .

You posted about this 10 months ago, if no one is hiring, after all that time why not move elsewhere to look for work, I left Ontario cuz I had a racing ticket and couldn't get insured, to get my start in trucking...there's big money to be made out here once you have a little experience...make an effort.

Drive box truck, do shunting, work in a truck service shop. Whatever you have to do to get something relevant on your resume.Another Canadian driver and prostartom Thank this.

Make sure that you look clean and presentable, print up a nice resume, go door to door, shaking hands.
Send me an email application, my personal assistant deletes it, without my seeing it, per my instructions.
If someone wants a shot at working for me, show up clean, in a clean vehicle, park properly, shake my hand, give me a paper resume, and offer to be available ANY TIME for an interview.
If you are too lazy to put in a serious effort to get a job, I'll assume you are also going to be lazy at the job.
Don't dress in a suit and tie, but clean jeans, and a button up shirt, cleanliness is next to Godliness, and if i can smell you thats bad.
The old handshake means a lot to us older timers, man or woman, shake my hand like you mean it, and look me in the eyes.Another Canadian driver and prostartom Thank this. -
The first test comes before they even get out of their car. If they drive in and can't figure out which is the employee parking lot by just looking it shows they haven't been around much. If they park directly in front of the office where customers and vendors park, that's points against them. If they park in a handicapped zone they just failed the interview without ever saying a word.
If they park in front of the shop and block the mechanic's access I try to get to them before the mechanic does. No point in having things get that ugly.prostartom and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
True.
My place is clearly marked to, huge VISITOR PARKING sign, and ALL VEHICLES MUST BACK IN WHEN PARKING .
At the road entrance is also a sign saying SMILE YOU ARE ON CAMERA. NO MASKS ALLOWED.
MAXIMUM 10 KMS/HR.
VISITORS MUST REPORT TO OFFICE.
EQUIPMENT HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY.
TRESPASSERS MAY BE SHOT AND FED TO DOGS.
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!prostartom Thanks this. -
LOL...The only sign I have is the one about English only is spoken here. Oh, the handicapped spaces and signs and lines are in blue only 'cause the state made me do it that way.
Other than that I like to see how much people can figure out on their own. For some it's a whole new experience but sometimes they surprise themselves and do quite well. We don't really get a lot of visitors.
The mega guys that use part of our yard for a drop lot provide us with most of our entertainment. I'll admit, that part of our property, seperate but adjoining, has lots of signs. They don't do a lot of good but they're there.MartinFromBC Thanks this.
