Yes. You will enjoy the break from the Institution.

Question to the experienced gallery: What is with the meat runs and the catfish runs, and who knows who else that require you to be there 10 hrs prior to the sceduled time to ensure you have a full day?
I am on a lamb run that is scheduled at 0800. However they have till 1800 to load. Now I have a full 11 hours to drive, but that is all night. I am showing up with almost fresh clock at 0800, but now must sit for 10. This is stupid. I could more than easily accomplish this, now I must wait, drive all night and have zero flexibility in weather.
    WHO runs this?????

Unfortunately, if you choose to run with it as it is I believe you are susceptible to the potential fines. I am not sure which level inspection would discover the noncompliance, but all the same the company should maintain all equipment and compliance.

Bootlegger, would have loved for you to have taken this run. Unfortunately, our companies are competitors and probably do not play well together. lol
I am currently at my 6th stop, waiting till 1030 est, tomorrow, to deliever. Nice people here who are going to try and work me in early in the morning. We'll see. Its another PFG group but hopefully, they have their act together MUCH better than the ones in Springfield did. This is a much smaller facility and they don't believe in concrete here. hehe
Finally got my preplan going home. Its a broker load and am picking it up somewhere in Maine and taking it all the way to OKC

    On the lamb?

Yep, you have to wait. Sometimes you wait the 10, sometimes it's ready when you get there, sometimes it's ready only a few hours after you arrive. Best thing is that you may recoup some hours while you sit there for your 10. Worst thing is that your clock will be inverted and you do some midnight trucking***.

Every meat load I get out of KS, I end up midnight trucking into ice fog while drinking LOTS of coffee. (disclaimer: only sleep will refresh you when you are tired)

Best thing is to just be ready to run when the trailer is ready, of course that's after you locate the trailer because they will give you vague location information like "it's on the property", hookup, pretrip, wiggle it out of whatever blackhole the yard dog jammed it into, and of course weigh it on the uncalibrated inaccurate scales on the property (don't forget to be on line 4 while you do all this (cough cough)).

Remember: meat loads are preplanned to allow you exactly 1min of flexibility per 2000mi to 99. So chances are that barring any traffic, weather, scaling at a calibrated certified scale, a butterfly flapping it's wings, bears crapping in the woods, etc.... you will be late. And then the 99 will hold you for another 10 hours and you won't get detention pay because you were late.

The above are my experiences, your results may vary.

*** Midnight trucking allows you to run (on the lamb) in conditions that if you were fully able to comprehend the true danger you were in you'd park the truck.

Great Post Bootlegger and oh so true!!

Although JJ and I did some meat loads and loved doing them, 99.9% of the time the TRL was preloaded and all he had to do was hook up and scale at the J.

If he hadn't of got back in the army we planned on moving over to National Carriers outta Liberal KS, so would have been hauling meat 80% off the time.

I know, im going to have my DM find me another trl in a drop yard somewhere near here or find another driver near going to WVC to swap with. that would be a level 2 inspection at the dot scales then they find out that my trl is overdue then shut me down.
